[I]Notre Dame takes over the ever-changing top spot in Week 7's Maverik Media Poll — the spot the Irish owned in Week 4.

The voters must have valued Notre Dame's (5-1) strength of schedule and quality wins — against Ohio State, Maryland — more than Penn State (9-0) and Hofstra's (8-0) unblemished records. The Nittany Lions are No. 2 in the poll, followed by Hofstra and a rising Syracuse team that is proficient in one-goal wins.

Rutgers falls back to No. 10 after its loss to unranked Delaware. The Blue Hens are the first team outside the Top 20, receiving votes along with Villanova, Loyola, Marquette, Binghamton, Penn and Providence.
