I am going to chose what I feel the top 25 should be based on performances. For the sake of this exercise I did not do a pre-season top 25. I want to base the teams on how I felt they performed and vs who. The point is to see how far off i am from the standard AP and Coaches poll.

1. Alabama - Dominant performance over FSU
2. Clemson - Did what they were supposed to vs Kent St 56-3
3. Penn St - Picked up where last season left off 52-0 over Akron
4. Ohio St - Took IU's shot in the 1st half, but wore them down 49-21
5. Michigan -Looked great against UF 33-17
6.Oklahoma - Took care of the business like they should 67-7 over UTEP
7.Washington - Not the best showing, but they eventually won on the road vs another P5 30-14 vs Rutgers
8.Oklahoma St - Impressive handling of a high potent offense and good team. 59-24 over Tulsa
9.Virginia Tech - Probably the most impressive win of the weekend taking care of WVU 31-24
10.USC - Looked in trouble for 3 quarters. Luckily they woke up late to beat WMU 49-31
11.LSU - Shut out BYU, but that may not be saying much this year
12.Stanford - Workman hammering of Rice 62-7
13.Louisville - Big win on a neutral field over an improved Purdue 35-28
14. Florida St - Got handled by Bama, and most importantly lost their stud QB. Ton's of questions now
15.Auburn - Business like 41-7 over Ga Souther
16. Georia -Georgia run game can't be stopped. 41-7 ov Ga Souther
17.Miami - HoHum opening week vs Bethune-Cookma 41-13
18. Kansas St - Another team who we didn't learn much about this week. 55-19 over Cent Arkansas
19. Washington St - Took care of business 31-0 over Montana St
20. Tennessee - Great will to win over what looks to be a greatly improved Ga Tech 42-41
21. Maryland - Probably the best performance of the weekend handling Texas on the road, 51-41
22. UCLA - Well in the end they got a win over a team that at very worst has elite talent. 45-44
23. TCU - Got the job done 63-0 over Jackson St
24, Notre Dame - 49-16 over Temple. Not surprising
25. South Carolina - Resume win as a dog over a highly thought of NCS ST, 35-28

I'm going to try and do this week by week in this 1 thread. As a college football junkie i'm looking at it as something fun to do, while sharing my input. Dont be afraird to disagree with me, talk to me about anything else having to do with cfb, or just ignore the thread since it may keep popping back up.

Not buying VT at 9... 22 vs 21 match up, with a 1 score win...

Same goes for Louisville. 1 score win over a team ranked in the 80's? I'd have dropped them a little more...

Has a state ever had a worse week than Texas?

They get hit by a historic hurricane that devastates much of the state.

Then Texas loses to Maryland. Texas A&M blows a 34 point lead and loses to UCLA. And Baylor is favored by 45 over Howard and loses.

Ouch.

Same goes for Louisville. 1 score win over a team ranked in the 80's? I'd have dropped them a little more...

I was pretty impressed by Va Tech and WVU. I think WVU is going to be one of the top teams in the BIG12. Grier was impressive at QB imo. I think they could finish top 3 in their conference so I waited VT's win pretty heavily. It was a better win then most of the teams ahead of them in other polls had. I want to do mine based on actual results, not projections. But speaking about projections...I was also very impressed with Va Tech's Freshman QB. He looks like the real deal and think they could be the team to beat in the Coastal.

Same goes for Louisville. I think this is going to be a different Purdue this year. I really like what I saw from them. I really respect Brohm for a coach, so I expect them to be much better this year, and from what I saw Saturday i will be surprised if their not.

Grier also appeared to be impressive at landing a wife.

Eh, they could be New Jersey.

Dang, no wonder Ga Southern lost. Can't expect any team to win when they're playing two teams on a Saturday. :D

I don't for the life of me see how Texas was even ranked. They were horrible of D last year and fired their coach. Their defense is just as bad this year. I think the USC win over NCS was more impressive.

Name recognition, both in school and coach. That's it. I am with you, how the heck were they ranked based?

Week 2 had some major implications on the season's national championship race. For the schools that lost (here's looking at you tOSU), if you're going to lose, you want to lose early. Then you have a school like Oklahoma who came away with one of the more important wins a conference (BIG12) may have ever needed.

Again, my rankings are based on actual results for week 1 and 2. I had no preseason rankings that inflated some schools in other polls.

1. Alabama - Did nothing that would validate moving them out of the top spot. Time will tell to see who the better win was. (N) vs FSU, or OU (@) tOSU
2. Oklahoma - Dominated tOSU on their home field. May end up being the best W of the season.
3. Clemson - Great win vs Auburn
4. Penn St - Could flip-flop this spot w/ USC. Penn St is proving last year wasn't a fluke. Barkley is a beast.
5. USC - If they looked better in week 1 vs WMU they would probably be 4. Regardless they dominated Stanford who I think will have a great year
6. Michigan - Built on their quality W wk 1 vs UF with a easy win over a decent Cincinatti
7. TCU - Big jump, but if comparing resumes and how teams looked then TCU belongs about here. Resume win and probably the 4th or 5th best W of the week winning @Ark
8. Georgia - See TCU explanation. Big resume winning @ND. Probably better with Fromm
9. Oklahoma St - Looking like one of the best offenses in the country
10. Washington - Wk 1 win @Rutgers where they struggled could be looked back at as a tell for what was to come, or just a fluke? We'll se
11.. Louisville - Picked up another quality win, this time winning @UNC. Speaking about high powered offenses...
12. Virginia Tech - Wk 1 win vs WVU (n) nice to have in their back pocket
13. FSU - It will be another wk before we start to find out more about the Noles
14. Ohio St - No question they have elite talent, but home loss vs OU and looked very beatable for a half in wk 1.
15. LSU - Nice W at home vs BYU. Looks like more of the same. Great D, sluggish O
16. Wisconsin - Will start to find out about Wisky this week
17. Washington St - Solid home W vs a good Boise St.
18. Kansas St - 2 woodshed beatings as they should have been. Tough one vs Vandy this wk
19. Miami - Season starts now
20. Tennessee - Nice W to start season over GT (n) and an easy W in wk 2 as it should have been
21. Maryland - Took care of business in Wk 2 after resume W in wk 1 @texas
22. S. Carolina - Another quality W this time Mizzou with ease. S.Car looking very solid.
23. Oregon - Solid home W vs Nebraska in wk 2
24. UCLA - Offense is humming. Will have plenty of opportunities this yr
25. Utah - Nice road W in their rivalry game. Just not sure how good BYU is? This spot could have went to about 5 schools.

Just on the outside (no order): San Diego St, Colorado, Duke, Mississippi St, Vanderbilt, Iowa, Michigan St, Stanford

Thoughts???

A few minor upsets (very upset that I stayed up until around 2am watching the SDSU/Stanford game only for the lights to go out in the stadium as SDSU was driving with about 5 mins to go), and a few big games between top 25 teams, but overall nothing too drastic happened that will shake things up. My updated poll is as follows:

1. Alabama (3-0) - Another ho-hum W vs a decent G5 program. Big W vs FSU still holding weight
2. Clemson (3-0) - Not only did they pick up a solid road W vs my #11, but it was the dominating way they did so. Combine that with the Auburn W and they just OU...for now
3. Oklahoma (3-0) - Took care of business after big road W vs tOSU
4. Penn St (3-0) - Continue to look dominant. Legit playoff contender
5. USC(3-0) - Nice win vs a game Texas
6. Oklahoma St (3-0) - Nice little jump for the Pokes. Same as Clemson. It's not if they won, but how they won, and on the road nonetheless. Huge match up coming up this weekend
7. TCU (3-0)- Took care of business in a sandwich game (@Arkansas w/ OKST on deck) vs a solid SMU and Chad Morris
8. Michigan (3-0)- Unlike Clemson and OKST, the style points definitely weren't there vs AF, but hey a W is a W
9. Georgia (3-0) - Took care of business week after big road W @ND
10. Washington (3-0) - Haven't been tested yet, but continue to look the part
11. VT (3-0)- Freshman QB will only continue to improve. Big match up on the horizon when Clemson comes to town
12. FSU (0-1)- Whacky schedule, hurricanes leave the Noles with only 1 game played thus far (Bama)
13. tOSU (2-1)- Beat Army handily, but something just doesn't seem right. Still a ton of talent and have taken care of business outside of OU
14. Wisconsin (3-0)- BYU is definitely down this year, but still 40-6 in Provo is pretty impressive against a solid D.
15. Washington St (3-0)- East conf W vs a bad OR ST, after a nice win vs a very good Boise St. Pass the look test
16. Mississippi St (3-0)- Speaking of look test. Dominated LSU on both sides of the ball. Not flashy, but solid road W vs La Tech the week before too.
17. SDSU (3-0) - Picked up 2nd straight W vs PAC12 after huge W vs Stanford. Rashad Penny should be a Heisman candidate. Kid is a stud and Rocky Long can coach
18. Louisville (2-1) - Big drop only bc of the way they lost to Clemson. W's vs a pretty good Purdue and @UNC hold weight.
19. Oregon (3-0) - Are the Ducks back? Dominated again, this time on the road @Wyoming
20. Vanderbilt (3-0) - Vandy is for real. Nice home W vs KST. One of the better defenses I have seen all year.
21. Miami (1-0) - Same as FSU, due to weather have only had 1 game vs a crap team. We'll find out more later, but no doubt they are talented
22. Maryland - (2-0) Impressive W @ Texas holding weight, especially after how the Horns looked @USC
23. Utah (3-0) - Have taken care of business, tougher tests coming up
24. Memphis (2-0) - Good home W vs UCLA
25. So Florida (3-0) - 3 dominating W's including 2 road W's vs SJSU and Illinois

On the outside (no order): Colorado (3-0), Duke (3-0) , WVU (2-1), Kentucky (3-0), Purdue (2-1), Michigan St (2-0), Cal (3-0)
New to rankings: SDSU, Mississippi St, Vanderbilt
Movers: Oklahoma St +3, SDSU +8, Mississippi St +9, Oregon +4, Vanderbilt +5
Losers: Louisville -7, LSU out, Tennessee out, Kansas St out
Match ups to watch: NCST @ FSU, Bama @ Vanderbilt, TCU @ OKST, Michigan @ Purdue, Mississippi St @ Georgia, Penn St @ Iowa, Florida @ Kentucky, Washington @ Colorado

Thoughts?

A couple statement wins, as well as a few teams being exposed. Cream starting to rise to the top...

1. Alabama (4-0) - Solidified themselves as the best team in the country by drubbing a very good Vanderbilt on their home turf
2. Clemson (4-0) - Final score didn't tell how close the game really was. Would have flip-flopped with OU, but they had their own problems.
3. Oklahoma (4-0) - Same as Clemson, they struggled against the worst team in their respective conference. Turned it on when needed though
4. USC (4-0) - Picked up a very nice road W vs a good Cal team
5. TCU (4-0) - I was already high on this team so they only jump 2 spots in my poll. W @OKST is imo 3rd best win anyone has so far this year
6. Penn St (4-0) - Were on the ropes, but made the big play when they needed adding a nice looking road W vs Iowa. Still drop a spot when compared to TCU resume
7. Georgia (4-0) - Dominating W vs a very good Miss St, combined w/ win @ND moves up the Dawgs
8. Michigan (4-0) - Won't get much credit, but dominated a good Purdue on road. UF neutral field W is starting to look better and better too
9. Washington (4-0) - Passed their first real test with flying colors by dominating a previously undefeated Colorado on their home field
10. Virgina Tech (4-0) - Continue to roll. Next big test this week vs Clemson at home
11. tOSU (3-1)- Another dominating performance vs inferior opponent
12. Wisconsin (3-0) - Dominated, but yet to be tested.
13. San Diego St (4-0) - Picked up W @ a solid AF. Ariz St and Stanford W's looking better after last weekend lets them jump a couple schools
14. Washington St (4-0) - Big matchup this week vs USC
15. Miami (3-0) - Eventually pulled away vs probably the best team in the MAC in Toledo
16. Louisville (3-1) - Best resume of all the 1 loss teams (Purde, @UNC)

23. Auburn (3-1) - Have the best loss if there is a thing. Ton of talent lets see what they do with it
24. Florida (3-1) - Good L vs Mich, and 2 nice W's , home vs Tenn and @ a good UK
25. Notre Dame (3-1) Only loss vs UGA. Just dominated a decent Mich St

Just outside: WVU, Mississippi St, LSU, NC ST, UCF

Before last weekend, I would argue that Clemson should be ahead of Bama. Defending champion beating Bama the last time they met, win at home vs Auburn was a grind, but very impressive @Lville. That 57-0 win was impressive though, but they were impressive last year and still lost to Clemson.

Teams are starting to separate. Again, my rankings are 80% resume and 20% eye test. I have a change at the top just because Clemson's road W @VT( who I had as #10), combined with several other greats wins trumps Bama's resume. That FSU W is starting to look less and less appealing as the season goes on.

1. Clemson (5-0) - Simply the best resume to date with the talent to back it up. Another dominating W, this time on the road @VT
2. Bama (5-0) - A little bit of pay back and a little bit of a statement W vs Ole Miss.
3. Oklahoma (4-0) - Top 3 W of season @tOSU holds a lot of weight
4. Penn St (5-0) - Last year wasn't a fluke. Dominated a good IU.
5. Georgia (5-0) - Moves into top 5 after dominating W @Tenn adds on an already stellar resume
6. TCU (4-0) - One of the biggest games of the week coming up vs WVU
7. Michigan (4-0) - Best W so far vs UF
8. Washington St (5-0) - Great W vs USC will carry a lot of weight
9. Washington (5-0) - Best W @Colorado, but look the part.
10. tOSU (4-1) - Will have a lot to say before it's all said and done
11. Miami (3-0) - Looked great in a dominating W @Duke
12. Wisconsin (4-0) - Solid W vs Northwestern - which is best W to date.
13. San Diego St (5-0) - Another solid W vs NIU to go with 2 W's vs PAC12 (AZ St, Stanford)
14. Auburn (4-1) - Picked up another very good W vs Miss St
15. Oklahoma St (4-1) - Nice W @ previously undefeated Texas Tech
16. Louisville (4-1) - No shame with their 1 loss being vs Clemson, but it's how they looked
17. UCF (3-0) - Biggest mover of the week after 2 dominating W's, @UMD (previously ranked), and then vs Memphis (alos ranked). Both 30pt W's
18. Utah (4-0) - Will see how good they are after Stanford this week
19. USC (4-1) - Tough L @WSU, but solid W's vs Texas, Stanford and Cal aren't too bad
20. Virginia Tech (4-1) - Thought they would have shown better at home vs Clemson
21. So Florida (5-0) - Bunch of OK W's, but look like they are starting to click
22. Florida (4-1) - Opening L to Michigan, but followed up with solid W's vs Tenn, Kentucky, and Vandy
23. Notre Dame (4-1) - 1 pt home loss to top 5 UGA. Have dominated vs Mich St, BC since then
24. NC ST (4-1) - Opening L vs So. Carolina is a head scratcher but have looked great since
25. Navy (4-0) - No signature W's, but have looked dominate vs Cincinatti, Tulsa, Tulane

Next few out (no order) - Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, WVU, Oregon, Maryland, Texas Tech

Week 6 games to watch:#16 Louisville @ #24 NCST , WVU @ #6 TCU, #11 Miami vs FSU, Maryland @ #10 tOSU, #2 Bama @ Texas A&M, Michigan St @ #7 Michigan, #8 Washington St @ Oregon, Stanford @ #18 Utah,
