Bill-of-Rights-Day.jpg

Welcome to Bill of Rights Day!

The first 10 amendments to the United States Constitution make up the Bill of Rights. Passed by Congress on September 25, 1789, these rights place limits on government power.

Did you know?

  • The bill was introduced by James Madison. He later became the 4th President of the United States.
  • The Bill of Rights initially had 12 proposed amendments. One concerned the number of constituents for each Representative. The other addressed compensation of Congressman. Neither were ratified.
  • In 1992, compensation of Congressman was ratified 203 years later and is now the 27th amendment.
  • The Bill of Rights is displayed in The Rotunda of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC.
  • There were 14 copies of the Bill of Rights; one for each of the 13 states to sign and one for the federal archives. Only 12 copies survive today.

Syracuse basketball center Bourama Sidibe said his healing ankle feels better (PS; Ditota)

Bourama Sidibe, Syracuse's 6-foot-10 freshman basketball center, said Thursday night he hasn't yet practiced "full strength" since injuring his ankle, but "it's feeling good right now" and he expects to play on Saturday.

Syracuse faces old Big East rival Georgetown at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Capital One Arena. Sidibe missed SU's last game when the Orange defeated Colgate in the Carrier Dome. He has battled soreness and swelling since injuring his right ankle during the Kansas game on Dec. 2. He said he's unsure how it happened, but afterward, the ankle swelled and prevented him from moving the way he knows he can move.

"It was super sore two weeks ago," he said, "and now it's kind of good. I can run on it, which means it's good. I'm going to play Saturday. I won't miss that one. If I can run on it, I can play."

Sidibe said Thursday his body in general felt good, though the ankle has affected his conditioning a bit. He has endured painful bouts with his left knee, but said that issue has subsided, too.

Sleeping with the Enemy: The Orange of Syracuse (casualhoya.com; Casual Hoya)

Your Fighting Hoyas of Georgetown put its undefeated record on the line against hated rival Syracuse on Saturday, and as usual we here at THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON are bringing you everything you need to know about our evil opponent. Here with us from from the putrid Orange site Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician is @JohnCassillo, who is taking over the hot seat this year from @HoyaSuxa, who relays that he is too busy with work and as such sucks uncontrollably. Here we go!

Georgetown-Syracuse! On a scale of 1-10 how excited are you?

Not sure. Maybe a 7 at best? We’re not even going to get a quality road win out of this. If we’re going to continue this series, the least Georgetown could do is be a fringe NCAA Tournament team.

Boeheim: He “Doesn’t Really Have to Score” – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Edelstein)

Despite playing 35 of 40 minutes against Colgate on Saturday, Marek Dolezaj went to the locker room after the game having only scored two points. He made one basket and only attempted two.

But Dolezaj was seemingly happy-go-lucky in the locker room postgame in regard to his scoring. He wasn’t getting one of those arms-flailing-Jim-Boeheim lectures.

In fact, his head coach had just said “he’s one of the few players that doesn’t really have to score.”

Syracuse Orange: Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson interview (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

ITLH recently interviewed basketball insider Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson to talk Syracuse Orange, New York Knicks, and of course Carmelo Anthony.

On a bi-weekly basis we’re joined by Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson on The Score 1260, a local sports radio station in Syracuse, New York. Usually we discuss the latest topics around the Syracuse Orange, Carmelo Anthony, and the New York Knicks.

But who exactly is ‘Scoop B’?
Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson is a sports and entertainment writer and personality. He is currently a managing editor and columnist at RESPECT Magazine, but he possesses a world of experience with stops with CBS and The Source Magazine.

Fun fact: ‘Scoop B’ and Tommy DeVito both are alumni of Don Bosco Prep. Small world.

But if catching him twice a month isn’t enough ‘Scoop B’ in your life, you’re in luck! You can catch him daily on the Scoop B Radio Podcast. It’s streaming on all the major plugs: iTunes, the Tune In App, Google Play, etc.

Syracuse Basketball: Orange Nation gets gypped in Fandom 250 list (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

Who has the greatest fanbase in the world? Entertainment? Music? Syracuse basketball? ITLH breaks down how Orange Nation got gypped.

First off, what the heck is the Fandom 250? Well I’m glad you asked, it’s the ultimate ranking of fandoms. From sports to entertainment. Celebrities to brands. The Fandom 250.

But while this should be a joyous time of euphoric celebration, it’s not, at least for Syracuse basketball fans in Central New York.

How could anyone make a list of the top fans across planet Earth and not mention the loyal, faithful, and passionate Orange Nation fan base?

While I understand the football team isn’t what it used to be and these last 15 years have been pure mediocrity, that’s not all Syracuse is. Look at the success of the Orange basketball program thanks in large part to hall of fame head coach Jim Boeheim.

Attorney General sues Syracuse business accused of keeping student possessions (PS; Lohmann)

The New York Attorney General's Office has filed a lawsuit against a Syracuse-based company that offered storage and transportation of belongings as students moved to and from school.

The company -- Not My Parents Garage, LLC -- operates out of Syracuse and marketed itself as a cheap way to store students' possessions and then deliver them to campuses across the state when needed.

But in August, 45 customers complained to the Attorney General's Office that their possessions had not been delivered and that their emails to the company were not being returned. The customers also learned over social media that the company had shut down without notice.

— Saturday’s game between Syracuse and Georgetown (12:30 PM ET, CBS) in Washington D.C. isn’t a vintage showdown between the two storied rivals, but there’s still plenty of intrigue entering this tilt because it’s the first showdown between Jim Boeheim and Patrick Ewing as head coaches. Another reason why there’s intrigue? It will be the first time as a head coach that Ewing has played an opponent from a power five conference. The Hoyas have won eight straight games to start the season, but Georgetown’s opponents have been meager at best. The highest rated team Georgetown has been in terms of conference rank was Richmond, who’s currently 2-8 overall.
