The Spread evolved from the Run and Shoot. As Texas Tech and Hawaii have shown you do not NEED a running QB. What about Oklahoma? When was the last time the had a QB running around? Heck Wake ran a Spread for awhile and never had a mobile QB. It got them to a BCS Bowl. Riley Skinner never ran the ball. BTW when Urban Meyer got to Florida he ran his Spread O. Leak had a whole 30 yards rushing on the championship year. Yes they had Tebow but he played about 7 snaps a game on the year and only came in to run. Couldn't we do the same with Kinder or Hunt? In addition Chip Kelly's O was a passing O while he was at New Hampshire. He was pretty darn successful then, was he not? You mention Cam Newton. Do you realize his OC while at Tulsa had the #3 pass O with a QB that ran for 119 yards on the year? So was Malzahn not a Spread OC until he got Newton? Geno Smith has 10 rushes in 6 games this year. So is WV not running a Spread? As to our team he have an athletic line that is much more suited for blocking for a Spread rather than power blocking. Instead of having 2 WR sets and having to beat double coverage wouldn't it be better to have 3-4 WRs where we have a mismatch on an LB? We lack talent on O and are trying to run an O that requires talent. It makes no sense.
