My prediction: Cuse releases a tentative schedule next week with 11 games and one listed as TBD after Temple joins.

When Temple leaves, the MAC will have a lot of juggling to do. I see an opportunity for Cuse to grab a MAC team for a home game in a few weeks as a by product. Mizzou would be nice to host in 2012 but Pitt or Cincy might have the flexibility to play at Mizzou away this Fall.

If a 1A team can't be found then we'll play Colgate as #12.

Agree to a 1 and 1 with Buffalo, Kent St. or Akron after Temple joins. Buy the return game out if necessary once we're in the ACC. Since we've been hitting MI hard the last few years they might actually prefer one of the directional MI schools if they were going to play Temple this year. I'd vote for Eastern Michigan.

Where is this talk of MAC schools opening up, because of Temple leaving, coming from? The MAC has not released dates for their schedule, so they have plenty of flexibility to change and ensure all MAC teams have 8 conference games. They are currently at 14 teams and will go back to 13, which means they traded UMASS for Temple, and will go back to the way they scheduled the past few years when they had 13 teams. No MAC team will be available for a game. Once Temple joins then we will be stuck either with a 2nd 1aa at home, or playing at Boise/Missouri/Nevada.

If Temple does not join, then we have to schedule either Boise/Missouri/Nevada on the road and take the 2nd 1aa at home.

Hmm even if they swap UMass for Temple these schools should still have a fallout...I'm not following your logic.

All of the MAC schools will be effected by this, so the MAC will have to adjust the cross-division games. Essentially, they are just going to switch Temple for another MAC opponent in the other division.

Right now, with 14 teams, each school plays 6 division and 2 from the other. The MAC with 13 teams has 7 in one division and 6 in the other. The way they schedule it is the 7 team division will still play all 6 division games and then 2 from the other. The 6 team division plays all 5 division and 3 from the other, so they will have to change the cross-division games.

They have flexibility to do this since they have not released dates for their conference games. They will not have any teams only play 7 conference games.

A 2nd FCS game or only 5 home games are both major fails.

But I still say there will be fallout...if not a MAC team maybe a team they were scheduled to play that has to be cancelled.

I agree that I can see a MAC team having to potentially cancel an OOC due to this. After looking at MAC teams OOC, I found some interesting games that could have potential interest for SU if the MAC forces a cancellation due to conference scheduling:

  • UMass is at Vanderbilt on Oct. 27. UMass does not have a 1aa on their schedule. Vandy already has a 1aa and has only 5 home games outside of UMass.
  • Ball State plays at Army on Oct. 27 and Kent State plays at Army on Oct. 13. Army has 7 home games so potential to get them to the dome this year? If so, Ball State does not have a 1aa on their schedule.
  • Central Michigan is home against Navy on Oct. 13
  • Eastern Michigan is home against Army on Oct. 20

Grab Army from EMU and tell them we'll work a 2 for 1 with EMU in the future. Tell Army we'll return to West Point in the next couple seasons.

I would rather see 5 home games than add another FCS game. Just hate to see them do that.

the biggest problem SU has is that september is filled. i guess they could move the stoneybrook game, but save that, nobody really plays ooc in oct & nov.

SEC and some ACC teams do... typically the week before their biggest rivalry game.

Could we request a waiver of the 1 FCS game counts due to circumstances beyond our control and schedule a second that would count for us?

I would give any MAC, Sun Belt team a 1 for 1 if they would come to Dome for 2012 and make the buyout like 1 million dollars so they know we will return the game for 2013 or 2014.

I asked the same thing. It seems like this is a case where a waiver would or at least hope would be granted. Something happened beyond Syracuse's control and they were left with no other alternatives?

I have instituted a self-imposed ban on calling out any Big East schools OOC schedule this year.

Yes, even Rutgirls.

Why? We have three BCS teams in our non-conference schedule and one is USC. If we added Scranton School of Cosmetology that may be all we can do.

We still play more BCS teams than Rutgers does. :)

Yet, that's what we have. <gulp>

Very disappointing!

Near must wins: NU, @MN, SBU, @Rutgers, Pasqualoni Bowl
Steal one or two from: Louisville, Pitt, @TBA
Very tough: @USF, @Cincy
Nearly impossible: vs USC, @Mizzou

Hopefully TBA won't be too tough.

To quote Han Solo, I got a really bad feeling about this. (wishing for same results as basketball posts)

Add this to the list of grievances against the BE when the settlement is negotiated.

"I've got a lot of problems with your people!"
"Marinatto, your conference stinks!"
