On Syracuse.com and how Marrone's recent show of sideline emotion has had quite a positive impact on his players. It appears the guys generally love his 'coming out of his shell' new style. Personally, I love it. Football is such an emotional game and his boys are feeding off it.

I know it has been a topic of discussion here in the past, with varying opinions of whether it really has any legit significance. Well, it appears the proof is in the pudding...his boys seem to love his new found sideline demeanor, and that's what matters most...well, other than the wins.

Always felt he had it innately in him, have you ever met a Pisan who didn't? :)

Marrone is surely not a quiet choir boy in practice and I've always felt he was just trying to be a bit professional on the sidelines. No matter though, sometimes I've not been sure how he's been able to keep the lid on.

Doug is a good guy, doing the right things to turn the program around.
He has to be himself --

But I have always believed a positive, energetic sideline demeanor is a plus for a head coach and hoped Doug would show more of that.

Not getting emotional about an official's call, or screaming at a player for making a mistake. But being positive about what is going well; applauding a player or the entire unit for that extra effort; being energetic with the offense or the defense, calling for the extra push in the next series. Most effective coaches do these things.

It is a bit perplexing that until very recently, according to his own account, he apparently was being something he really wasn't. The article quotes his new demeanor as "It's me." Whatever the reason may have been for his, 'not him' prior sideline approach, I'm just glad he has bascially said...farg that shat!

I think it says a lot that in numerous instances he's saying/showing that what he thoguht would work, wasn't and isn't afraid to make changes. We would all love coaches to do that but many coaches believe in what they do and won't change regardless. They don't adapt, they want the "things" around them to adapt.

I was off the bandwagon and this game sat will say a lot. I still like Marrone and I really want him to be successful. I think he's doing everything he thinks is right to make this program better. He is the reason I'm discouraged but at the same time he is the reason I am still grasping to the bandwagon. I want a team I can be proud of and I know he wants the same thing. He's willing to admit his mistakes and make changes - that's a big deal in the coaching profession.

I think this shows that Marrone is still learning what it takes to be a great head coach. And that's ok. And more importantly I think it illustrates that Marrone is willing to adjust and change things up to improve the program. Marrone has always seemed like the kind of guy who keeps tweaking things to get it better and I like that about him. He isn't afraid to say I was wrong or this didn't work. Accountability.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Marrone may not have been quite ready to be the head guy back in '09. Thats apparent to me as he appears to be actively learning on the job, whether it be how the team practices or how he should act on the sidelines. He's a tweaker. Lets hope that he eventually gets it right. From a macro perspective, I love what he's doing program wise. Now the W's need to start following.

Agreed. The W's are coming a little less often than I had hoped but in the grand scheme of things, I really believe we will get back to where we want to be as a program. And 10 years down the road will we really care if it took 4, 5 or 6 years? What's the difference. As long as it does happen. And I keep seeing progress so I will stand behind Marrone until I stop seeing progress.

speaking of W's, he abso-tively posi-lutely has to goddamn Fn win this sat night.

no excuse to lose.

if he and the Orange have turned that corner, then well......

Oh Lord

In hindsight if his ideal job really was to be HC at SU, it was dumb of him not to go back to CFB after the 2007 season. At that point everyone knew GRob was a failure. I am still not sure how he kept his job for 2008. But had Marrone gone back as HC or OC somewhere even for one year, he would have been further ahead when he took over SU. Marrone seems to get it, but the problem is he fixing things later than he should be. Hopefully he isn't constantly lagging behind and never able to catch up. That is a big concern.

Just because you like meth doesn't mean Marrone does.

This was one of my biggest complaints about Doug. Glad to see him showing some fire. Anyone who doesnt think that it matters needs to read the article. Looking for a big win tomorrow night

This is a game Cuse should win and could go a long way to a semi successful season (4-4 with four to go and a possible bowl bid). Lose tonight and it's another non-bowl year. The team needs to show that last week vs Yukon wasn't a fluke and that they can win two in a row.
