Brent Axe on his show playing an interview he did with Doug Gottlieb about a confrontation he had with a Syracuse fan at the Final Four. Brent wrote an article aobut it:
Doug Gottlieb says he doesn't have a Syracuse basketball 'grudge'

There's more detail in the radio discussion. The fan was apparently drunk and highly profane, calling Gottlieb every name in the book and threatening physical harm. Axe is acknowledging that Gottlieb has had a problematic relationship with SU and it's fan but says that what he is describing should never happen, which anyone should agree with.

But, it being Gottlieb, I wonder if it did happen, (he's suddenly talking about this after he Barkley incident started making headlines) and if his description of it was accurate. If you ARE that guy, maybe you can fill us in on what actually happened?

Obviously CurtB. Golf club and all.

I called in horribly wasted to Lindsley after the Gonzaga game. Was even more surprised when he took the call after the UNC game when I was wasted again.

Don't care what people say around here, like his show.

"We don't even enjoy successes," Gottlieb said. "Instead, we simply want to point out what we deem to be haters. That's a bad way to look at the world. It won't shorten your life, but it will shorten the enjoyment of your life."

I mean...I AGREE with this, but does one of the hottest hot takers there is understand how ironic this is?

HE and his ilk created this culture and now their mad about it? Nah, off. This is on you

Don't agree at all with physical confrontation. Agreed that it's a clown move. But the idea that you can drop H0T Takes every day and then just walk away from them, sorry, you created this field and then get mad when you are called on them.

I received a horribly wasted caller call-in after the Gonzaga game. Was even more surprised when he called back after the UNC game when I was wasted, it spiked my participation numbers.

Don't care what people say around here, my mom likes my show.
Mike? Fixed it for you...

My money is on Gottlieb making this story up completely or greatly embellishing a minor incident.

He's a clown. Not even a Cuse guy.

He's a St. Bonnies alum/fan who was actually chirping like they're on Cuse's level.

Some people do, I enjoyed every second our of final four run, didn't give a damn about the haters.

Yet during basketball season he talks 90% cuse and during the tourney it was all cuse with JB even calling in every week, post game shows. I get it, he has some H0T Takes and is hated around here. But it's more juvenile than anything.

He hops on the bandwagon when it's convenient. But he's a Bonnies guy.

His Cuse takes are as basic as it gets. I don't see much value in what the guy brings to the table.

Of course he's a Bonnie's guy but he's not a cuse hater.

What I like about his show is that it's very interactive with the fans.

Not sure when the last time anybody gave him a shot, but next season maybe listen to one or two shows, throw a call in or a tweet and see what's up. Not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Maybe not a Cuse "hater" but less knowledgeable about them than most of us here, and too quick to get down on them. I'm generally annoyed by very casual "Cuse fans" who don't really know that much about them and are quick to get negative or jump on the bandwagon during a FF run.

That's how he strikes me.

I listened to him all season. He was consistent most of the year with his cuse takes.

To quote the Foo Fighters, "I've got a confession to make". (actually, listening to this song now, it sounds appropriate for both Doug, and for all of those on here who get worked up by him...not to mention the lyrics are just useful in general for life... as an aside, Dave Grohl apparently buried the hatchet with Axl Rose, and lent him The Throne for the Broken Footed[tm]).

As comments on here have noted, Doug could have embellished this, or even made it up. As such, there is somewhat of a chance he could have used our encounter(though I still would like to think not) as a basis for his story, though it was nothing like his story. I was waiting in a long line to gain entrance, after an already tumultuous encounter with board royalty, CTO. To my right was one of those crowd control fences that went up maybe waist height. A few feet to the site of it ambles by Doug Gottleib. Not being much for facial recognition of "famous" people, I was unaware until some oafish gentlemen behind me said something. Having alcohol in me, without hesitation, I yelled out, "Doug Gottlieb (very brief pause ), you suck!!", as I pointed the bony finger like the Grim Reaper in the Son of a Boeheim shirt I had on(had a Cuse hat on as well, so Doug could see where I was coming from). At some point after or during my brief commentary, he slowed a bit and turned, and had a large grin on his face. I'd imagine he was used to doing this by now, for some reason.

Now granted there was a small barrier between us, but it would have presented little difficulty if I wanted to truly accost the guy. I really hope he wasnt using THAT as a basis for his anecdote, but thanks to this thread(and comments here/under the syracuse.com article), it's doubtful I'll ever have complete certainty, unless more is revealed, lol. What a trip of mixed emotions, which is why I didn't respond to that thread wondering about my wellbeing(I am still wondering), although I appreciated it very much and would like to thank whomever the OP was for their concern. It's nice to see decency still exists! S***, like that pop song said, "It's all coming back to me, now".

I also heckled him again after the game at the cbs sports thing that had 2 groups of analysts. I could upload the pictures of Doug and the bright fluorescent shoes he was sporting to those of us behind the set, but I'm guessing that's already been done due to the level of obsession on here? (I reflected later, and felt some remorse for letting it influence me, when I realized the guy was like any of us and trying to make his mark/brand and look "cool", not unlike kids back in high school). While I await the answer about whether I should upload the photos or not, I'll put the Foo Fighters song which seems very relevant, and not "OT":

I've given Mike a couple of shots and he gave me a couple of shots. I called him to welcome him back and when I noted I was on Syracusefan.com, he went off on a diatribe about all the "haters", (I hate that term), he has there. Anther time there he was having some problem hearing me, although i could hear him fine and had just had another phone call without trouble and he became angry with me for having a lousy phone line and said "Go get yourself a line that works, Dude!!!". I then made another call to test it and my line was fine.

I still listen to him occasionally. He does good analysis but I preferred him as a reporter. He just doesn't have a very interesting or friendly personality. I call Bud and the Manchild and the Axeman because they like me and I like them. Orangenation and and Lindsley, not so much.

(I realize this is probably already on the evil payside, but for my beloved common man) : From the "Ive got another confession to make" portion of the last post, I've decided to(forego awaiting a response as I may not be around to get it, and) upload the photo of Doug doing his thing after he moved from the kiddie table(to steal a line used for those relegated to the earlier-time GOP debates when the field was like 16 or so), which would have been stage left and much lower. I think this was actually after the title belt game.

(you can click to enlarge, if you wish). Again, this is from chapter 2 of my last post, and not from the close encounter, but I figured some of you may get a kick out of his kicks. At the moment I don't recall the name of them, which some folks were discussing, though I am guessing some here would know. I was going to include this in my epic return thread, but much like my "Buy 'By Keita'" parody of the Misfits/Metallica song, it never came to fruition. The board may be better for it, lol.
