Kingsley Jonathan (I think) was called for roughing when he hit the QB just as the QB released the ball. Later, Rex threw the ball away and an NC State player pursued him and shoved him to the ground. It was willful; it was blatant, but the ref ignored it.

It seems to me that roughing should have been called, or at least unsportsmanlike conduct. Unless there is criteria of which I am not aware.

Probably should have been called. But does it really matter in the end with this offense

Do I hear you saying it is okay to commit penalties against the SU offense because they are not good? I think 15 yards and a first down would be a good thing.

It helps if you are wearing an SU uniform.

Josh Black was flagged for roughing. I am not exaggerating when I say that was the worst roughing call I I’ve ever seen.
I missed the play. Wish I saw it.

It was the right call. Defenders can't land on the QB and put all of their body weight on the quarterback which is what Black did.

Here is the formal NFL rule from their rules website. It's the same rule in college too.

"When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down or land on top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player’s arms and not land on the passer with all or most of his body weight. "

With ACC refs it seems to based on latitude of the University in question. We've always got sh**e calls Vs Southern "old boy" teams but that's also happened Vs Pitt so really only logical conclusion

The flag on Josh was terrible
#11 for NC State was doing worst crap most of the game, dude was going of his way to make contact late and jaw nonstop.

11 was going beyond the whistle and pushing every play. He deserved a personal foul. He was the one that pushed Rex late just like Josh Black but escaped without a penalty. Don't like that player. Although I'm sure other fans would say the same thing about Cantin-Arku as he definitely toes the line.

Agree every team has a few guys that toe the line and I get "it's part of the game" but the refs really let NC State get away with almost everything, was really shocked they got the personal foul for that soccer flop.

the main issue with the call is the ref didnt define why he called it roughing.. if it was for slamming to the ground it was marginal but liveable. if it was for late hit then it was bad. but like many other calls in this bad year it has not gone our way. Much like the fumble call a few games ago when no forward momentum was called but then a few plays later was called for the other team.

the non holding call was just as bad in that same seqeuence of plays and much more blatant

The way the conference coddles the North Carolina schools needs to change. With a new Commisioner, hope Notre Dames AD, while he brings Notre Dame in fulltime. That would change all the tobacco road home cooking.

It’s more likely ND would simply be added to the list of protected conference brands than drive a change that would positively impact SU.
