is that if you keep at it, the stars will align for you from time to time. He's a loyal football guy but he's not a great coach. I think we're seeing the same with his former boss Shanahan too, which makes GRob's hire all the more frustrating because it was undoubtedly his connection to Shanahan that sold him to the admins. Shanahan had the right mix in Denver and after Elway retired, he didn't win a playoff game for 7 years. But we've seen now definitively in Washington that he's part of the problem not just the victim of Snyder or RGIII. Watching that 30 for 30 film about the Raiders, there weren't many kind things said about Shanahan by former players either.

wasn't it his connection to then USC coach Pete Carroll?

Shanahan had nothing to do with Grobs hire.

Wonder if GRob is coming back. Because, all of the sudden, it looks like Mack Brown is.

Grob claimed he wasn't but money talks.

I think even good coaches can have bad teams. And bad coaches can have good teams. Especially at the college level, where you are not able to just turn over your roster.

GROB is a very good #2 man. As DC, he is in his zone. He failed under RichRod becaue RR was imposing a new system on kids who never played his system and were not the typical player for that system. That failure was RR's not GRobs.

GRob is simply not the #1 guy. He lacks that ability to impose discipline on the team. As HC he couldn't do that. As DC, he can be friendlier with players and can work with them more.

I have never heard one account where GRob was not a good person off the field. Everyone commented how easy he was to talk to. It was his on field performance that lacked what SU needed. Continually bashing a guy and not giving him a chance makes a person no better than he thinks GRob is. He did a great job getting UT's defense back in order. UT fans down here really love the guy for turning around the D.

I agree that In his 4 years as HC he showed he's not a #1. But I would challenge if it had anything to do with lack of discipline on or off the field.
