I've brought this up a few times, and it has been suggested that I make a new thread about it. My girlfriend is a Villanova alum, so the Wildcats have been my 1-AA team of choice for the last few seasons. Here's what I know about them.

'Nova is a team filled with Northeast talent. There are so many guys from Eastern PA, NJ, NYC Metro on the roster. They are well-coached and mostly an anonymous bunch with a few major exceptions. The team has always been built around a few really quality guys. Take for example Matt Szczur, a WR on the 2009 National Championship team who seemed to touch the ball every play- (Think 2012 Alec Lemon, but with more carries.) This guy Szczur is now playing MLB for the Cubs. They get a few great athletes who they lean on heavily.

Really, the conversation starts with and is dominated by their QB, John Robertson. Kid is a stud. 1-AA Freshman of the year in 2012, Preseason All-American this year. He threw for almost 2,000 yards last season and ran for 1,500 more. Their top RB, Monangai, ran for more than 1200 yards in 2012, but is coming off a less successful campaign last year.

This team is predicated on the run. I don't follow them nearly as closely as Syracuse, so their offense is a bit hazy to me, but it's not all that gimmicky- option-read style, I believe. Their O-Line is banged up and inexperienced, so I don't know how much running they'll be able to do about our front 7. If Robertson can be contained (and he's by far the biggest threat), this could be an easier win than some of us (read: me) are expecting.

I don't know much about their defense, but they're not the stoutest bunch in the league. Granted, this was two years ago, but the only 'Nova game I've ever been to, they gave up 49 points.

The only other thing I have to note is the name of their top wide receiver, and I think he handles kicks too. His name is Poppy Livers. That is all.

Poppy Livers is an interesting story. Cali kid whose grandfather was an AA track guy for Nova back in the day. Cameo appearances from old friends Glenn Foley and Aaron Beasley.

He is only 5-7 168 pounds. From all accounts, he is a terrific kid who has worked his butt off to get to where he is now. I hope he has a great season, except for Friday night.

Thanks Lemoyne, theres not much out there on Nova so it was good to get your thoughts even if they are from a Syracusefan perspective. I encourage any Nova fan who maybe lurking to give us there thoughts on the team and what they expect to see on Friday.

I really love the name Poppy Livers, with a name like that he could be anything from the most fly pimp on the street to the president of the United States.

I stopped by the Nova rivals board (seems to the most active but even that one is pretty much a ghost town) and someone mentioned that Livers called out the Syracuse media in the local press but I cant find the article.

God help us all if the Budster figures out they have a kid named Poppy Livers....

"He was a young swag from those sunny shores of California, a man of inherent contradictions with with no taste at all for those goose livers in pate but a real nose for the pop and sparkle of champagne. He came to the loud house determined to pop a long one for those wild felines from the Main Line"

We could pull a page from WV's handbook, but instead of throwing batteries at their players, we could throw pop-tarts for poppy instead. Or livers but im not smuggling a liver into the dome. No way

I question your dedication. The effect of 1,000 stinking livers thrown onto the visiting team cannot be underestimated.

How could you possibly know this? I am starting to worry about you. Tom!

I'll bring my liver anyway--it's pretty well shot and the only person it can hurt is me. Gonna give it a workout anyway at the tailgate. I'll show 'em who's boss!

The whiz bang surfer kid was from the wrong side of the tracks of a small burg that traced its roots to a gold rush now all but forgotten by a nation obsessed with Dippin Dots and Tater Tots. Barely tall enough to ride Space Mountain, he weighed not much more than a clump of so many lazy dandelions who never saw a strong wind.

But wowing jaded ink stained wretches from the Eastern press with his speed and daring do was always second nature to this Leland Stanford in reverse. So watch this Wunderkind frolic on the Dome turf on Friday night, accord him his preeminence, and tip your cap to Grandpa Livers for a job well done. And to Leland Stanford too. And to Derek Jeter.

You forgot Ramrod, Whiz-Bang, chutzpah, huzzah and about 40 other words he uses that are annoying trying to read an article on a Sunday morning and not wanting to use much brain power to do so.
