I'm not the biggest Crouthamel fan, but it wasn't until Jake returned to the Big East side of the table that focus on trying to get Miami to change its mind and then when that failed coming up with a plan for what the league would like afterward. Heck, Hardesty, Nordenberg and the rest of the jilted 4 (once 5) put more emphasis on SU and BC joining their lawsuit against Miami and the ACC then rolling up their sleeves and getting down to the real work.
 
The main person to give credit or blame to for the 8/8 set-up with no split was Tranghese who let it be known to the football side that the BCS contract was that specifically mentioned the Big East's name, so if the split occurred they could lose that auto-bid and also pointed out that they would lose the NCAA units.
