My guess is D'Antoni only went along with signing Melo to appease Chris Paul. Had it worked out, great. But they got off to a bad start, so D'Antoni predictably put the blame on the player he never liked or wanted in the first place. Well, eventually he's going to run out of scapegoats.

The funny thing is, they could use Melo right now. Given how he was willing to do whatever was asked of him like taking a reduced role and coming off the bench, I doubt he would have any issues with suiting up. But the two stubborn coaches would never do that and risk looking like even bigger fools than they already are.
