What is jb doing with keita

I'm sure Keita will step up and play big in some games but its so obvious how much better Rak is and when Keita keeps taking minutes from Rak, it's mind numbing.
The tradeoff for BMK used to be consistently better D. That hasn't been happening, and Rak seems to be more sure-handed than ever offensively. Really sub par game for Baye today - did not need to be guarded offensively, and the Baylor interior scoring started when he came in the game.

Seems like Rak has improved a great deal. Has been in much better position defensively this year, and seems more tuned into the game. That probably is due to increased minutes, which is only natural.

I agree about Rak. Should be getting the bulk of the minutes. I just don't understand wth is wrong with Coleman. The rebounding was atrocious. Keita, a senior, should be playing a helluva lot better.

This surprised me about Coleman as well especially after his much improved play against the Gophers. Tonight Baylor's front line was eating home up on both ends. I want to give this kid every chance possible but it looks like the door might be closing on him .. I hope to heck I'm wrong.

Last night might have been Rakeem's best defensive game in the middle. He's been solid for stretches before, but I don't know that he's ever been as proactive. Right from the initial steal of the lob pass, he was on.

Nice to have a guy who's an asset at both the 4 and the 5.

It's not always about how many rebounds you get, but about how many you don't allow your guy to get.

Keita just gets bullied around too much down low.

Id like to hear from the pro-Keita group bc while I like him as a person, I've never been fond of his game. I find myself maybe thinking he's worse than he is, but he is straight up getting beasted on early this season. It's it a seniority thing? Conditioning? Why in the world in BMK getting those minutes over Rak?

Christmas did have much better game than Keita against Baylor, that is why he got 31 minutes and Keita got 9 minutes. Seems like an appropriate distribution of minutes to me.

Try to keep in mind that this early in the season all three bigs are going to play, and it is FAR from settled as to which one will be the better option in March. As much as Christmas was the clear best player in this game, Keita was the clear best player against Cal. Boeheim will continue playing all three, developing all three, and giving whoever deserves it the most minutes.

I didn't think BMK was all that great against Cal.

BMK will be there when it counts. How quickly we forget that he was a MAJOR reason we went on that run last year.
These knee-jerk reactions are hilarious. Perspective is a beautiful thing.

I think in the prior years a lot of had to with hustle - which honestly I thought people beat Rak down a bit too much for a lack of hustle, but Keita does have his engine running pretty high most nights. Baye has his games, we saw a string last year at the end, where he does play well. However, there are games, match-ups, where he just seems to hurt us being on the floor and he logs about the same minutes regardless. His defense is okay, but not light years ahead of Rak by any stretch (even last year) so the extended run in some cases is baffling.

I think the team overall this year is doing a slightly better job of getting them a few touches here and there and it's probably helping them stay active - I was a tad shocked Coleman didn't see more times in the tourney overall with his play early on. JB likes Baye though - always has. That's where I get confused though - yesterday is the perfect example of a game where Baye is just getting abused but he stays on the floor for extended minutes anyway (don't think it was a foul issue until late, so sort of mystifying). The other bigs don't have nearly as long of a leash - Rak's is longer this year tbh, but Baye always has had a much longer one.

I'll tell you why there's a love affair with Keita. Freshman year he was a nobody and zero expectations on him. Fab Melo comes in and stinks up the joint and gets taken out for a guy who runs the floor with great speed for a big guy and has high energy. Being a nobody doing that while a big time recruit comes in and stinks makes people root for the underdog and it hasn't stopped. The guy looks good at moments in the middle of the zone but is bullied the other 80% of the time and it gets ignored. I like his presence in the middle of the zone but he shouldn't be a 15-20 minute guy on a top 15 team and probably our worst regular 5 in a long time. From the BMK supporters, who was the last center who played his kind of minutes who you would consider worse than him?

jb has some big man he wants to woo. he wants keita to succeed because he's graduating. his worse fear is coleman gets ten points in seven minutes. u might start wanting him more. jb knows most of his followers know little of bball and will quote him that he doesnt play defense or he doesn't trust him. he remains coach because of his fan bases' ignorance

If Baye can just keep his hands vertical when he defends, he could avoid a lot of the needless fouls he got last night. Given his limited skills, he can't play effectively if he's in foul trouble and that limits JB's options with Rak and DC. If last night was any indication, I'd say the posters who thought CF and Grant would spend most of the game minutes at the forwards are right, and the centers will chew up fouls playing one at a time most of the game.-VBOF

BMK is getting minutes over Rak at the end because of the built up trust he has from JB. While you may never have been fond of BMK's game, I believe JB has been. BMK has been an integral part of several of the best D's JB has been associated with.

JB's decision is who is his best option for the upcoming minutes. This decision is not solely based on the first part of the game, it is based on all the experiences/data he has. BMK has a deep history.

I agree BMK did not look so good this tourney. But JB can be loyal to his program kids who have paid their dues. BMK is still the closing center and that doesn't change based on a couple of sub-par games. Don't forget it has been BMK who has routinely received the short end of the token starter thing.
