If HCDB isn't enthused with OL prospects like Noel Brouse, what is our ideal OL skill set now?
The new commit Airon Servais doesn't look any better on paper.
And, since HCSS was so high on the redshirted OL he had, are they likely to help us in the new system?
Any technical gurus have a hunch?

Quick thought:

They seem to be looking for tall kids with big wing spans who are good pass blockers.

I'd assume good feet / lateral movement as I understand there are wider gaps.

Just a guess, but I have to think the new offense call for fitness that includes endurance. This is one area that the whole squad is going to have to improve upon.

6'-6" 290 lbs. Long arms and quick feet. Just a guess.
That seems like a good guess. With his inside run game Babers needs linemen that can get to the second level in a hurry. Blocking rules are probably something like if covered step to play side and hit your guy on his play side number; if uncovered, step to the play side double team a fat man and work to the next level.
Need to be big and agile.
Long arms help on pass blocking.
No runts allowed apparently.

When in doubt, double team the fat man.

Another possibility is that Coach Babers would like these players, but they are loyal to the previous staff. It will be interesting to see if players decommiting from SU end up at Maryland, or a school where other former assistant coaches land.

Commits from UVA and BG followed the new staff to SU.

We're dealing with small sample sizes of course, but looks like they really value height on the o-line.

Height, and athleticism. They are targeting guys with big frames and room to grow who can move their feet.

I'm sure that Baylor - given the success they've had - can get 6-6 guys who are already at 300 pounds coming in. Looks like we're going to have to grow 'em.

Growing them is long term thinking.

I like it.

Seems like the O line is a big priority. With this system does anyone know if there is a greater need in rotating lineman in and out to keep up with the pace?

The new staff is going to love Cody Conway.

Justin Pugh does not approve of this thread.
Dino would have a soft spot for him.

Yes sir...kinda what I figured...A kid like we got today would be a 4/5 star recruit if he was 300 lbs.

These o line recruits are really tall. Get some meat on them and Hulk Smash!

I agree this is the way we are looking. Tall guys that are athletic that need to put in weight. Red shirt the first year then sit a year. Gives them at least 2 years to bulk up and be ready to dominate. If we keep this up class after class we will have a nice cycle of stud linemen to dominate.

Yep and height seemed to be a pre-req. Kind of makes me worry for 3 or 4 of last years haul.

Yessir. Cody "My Redshirt Went Up In Smoke Like So Much Peyote" Conway.

Such a waste.

Speaking of OL I see no way Palmer sticks at OT with HCDB. Have to figure Conway takes 1 OT spot, but the other one is wide open. Wonder if Evan Adams has the physical requirements that Babers is looking for, or he goes all out on someone like Sean Foster, offering him the chance of playing and starting as a true Freshman?
