I couldn't find the rankings for most dumb, What or disastrous turnovers, I understand from reading this board he leads in those categories.

If you have a real conservative guard (fewer turnovers), you likely have a loser.

Pass around the perimeter, launch a long 3, or let someone else launch a low percentage shot = no turnover. You don't want this sort of guard unless the player is a serious shooter.

Drive into the lane, can force a foul, get an assist, get a lay-up, or sometimes get a turn-over. You can win with guys who have this skill set. I'd take Theodore, Wayns and JDO any day.

I enjoyed this. Scoop can actually have a confusing, annoying What moment from time to time, but he has had really an impeccable senior season, IMO, outside of FT percentage.

I mean, since a complete clunker vs. Marquette (6 TOs, 3 pts, 3 assts), he has turned the ball over more than three times in a game once (4 vs. G'town, but that went along with 8 assists and 2 steals) while dishing out at least 6 assists on seven occasions.

The three games where his shot hasn't been falling (ND, L'ville, G'town -- a combed 1-for-20), he still chipped in with 20 assists.

His best games:
-- 21, 6 assists vs. UConn (a game that ended in a rout but was a two-point game late in the 2nd half)

-- 17 points, 7 assists, 3 steals, 4 rebounds in tight W over RU.

-- 13 points, 6 assists, 0 TOs in 7-p0int win vs. Cincy

-- 12 points, 10 assists in tight game vs. Pitt

-- 16 pts, 7 assists, 4 rebs, 4 steals in 4-point win vs. Florida

-- 10 points, 7 rebs, 4 assists, 4 steals in tight one vs. Marshall

The guy has had a clunker or two, but he's generally put together a really solid season and been pretty good in big games. Even in the L'ville game, I don't remember more than one bad shot and a couple turnovers. Otherwise he got good looks and just didn't finish. It happens.

The guy is a good player.

Assists:

Scoop is 45 th in the nation with 140 assists on the season.
60th at 5.0 assist per game.

Within the conference he is:

6th with 140 total
7th at 5.0 assists per game

Counting Big East play only:

3rd with 89 assists
4th in assist per game at 5.933

See if you can help me find a pattern in the leader boards below:

So how about we stop trying to pick a part his performance and start congratulating him for having a really solid senior season and leading our team to a 27 and fing 1 record.

He may not be the best point guard of all time on the hill, but he's been a pretty darn good player that for some reason takes way too much abuse.

I wonder how many have come from lobs? He has to be close to leading the country in alley-oops.

He nearly threw another one in the hoop yesterday...

I've been very hard on Scoop's decision making in the past 2 years. I think he has been stellar this year in not taking dumb shots. He has really limited his crazy shots in critical situations. He has taken one or two, but nothing like last year. If he keeps up the intelligent shot taking within the flow, we have a chance to be great.

But this is the funny thing: You were really that critical two years ago? I mean, he had an almost identical season to the one this year and you could really argue it may have been against even tougher competition (the BE was loaded at that point). I mean, you could even potentially argue he was better in 09-10 since he hit 75% of his free throws and even shot a bit better from three and scored a bit more in slightly fewer minutes.

But ultimately the guy has been an excellent guard for two of the last three seasons and, while he struggled at times last year, still made a lot of big shots and helped a pretty offensively challenged team (Melo was awful, Waiters was out of shape and wildly inconsistent, KJ was OK but not a big go-to guy, Fair was solid but is better this year, RJ was great but still a hair limited offensively ...) to a 28-7 record. I mean he's simply been a really good player for the better part of the last three years.

There's this web site called ESPN.com. You may have heard of it. They have all our statistics right there for you.

On the season, it's 2.37 to 1. I thought he was closer to 3 to 1, myself.
