Honestly, what do you need? That turnout was pathetic. I am so disgusted with this lack of support for our team? Free tickets-package giveaways-blah,blah,blah!! Nothing works for the lame people in this town. The team is pretty darn exciting and getting better.
You stink Syracuse( obviously not including the 18-20k good fans there evry week with me.()

I'm not sure if my new company that I work for now will continue to advertise inside Dome (major $ wow)! The promise I heard to my company by SU was that they would advertise outside to deliver eyeballs inside Dome and higher up execs started (inside word) is that SU doesn't spend a dime on attracting eyeballs - so why spend money if SU cannot deliver eyeballs?

SU marketing needs a Billy "HUGE" overhaul soon!

Let me try to explain this to you again (I've already done this countless times): Fball in the Northeast is ENTERTAINMENT, not religion. The casual fan saw the first two games and concluded "SU sucks this year. Let's make plans to do other stuff." They may, and I reiterate "may" have seen the Wagner score and had their interest perked. Others didn't. Hopefully now they will all have their interest perked. Now, it's a matter of the starting time being announced. Hopefully, it won't conflict with travel soccer. If it doesn't then, maybe they will make plans to attend.

I had season tickets for years before kids. Now soccer, football, and hockey take up all of my free time. I'm lucky to get out into the woods a half dozen times a year let alone watch a game in person/tv. I do go and take the family whenever possible but my kids sports are more important at this time. They are being raised the right way though, all Orange!

Hate to be a richard about this subject but here goes.

Upstate NY isn't in a recession it's in a depression. The only thing separating us from 1929 is indoor plumbing. Things are really tough around here contrary to the BS spread by Mario's son or Barack Obama.

The "Labor Participation Rate" (63.1%) is the lowest since since 1979 but many refer to the "unemployment rate" as a viable statistic. When/if the economy improves...dome attendance will improve.

It's not just Syracuse - several years before Sandusky, Penn State started having attendance drop. Additionally having gone to a couple games this year, they have the oldest fan base I've ever seen. The problem in the northeast is the population is turning into old retired people on fixed income, and people on government assistance. It's really, really hard to market something like college football in that environment.

not too mention when we lost a lot of our factories we lost a bunch of butts at the Dome. As good as basketball has been, ever the attendance there has decreased since the 80's

Does the "LPR" rate magically increase during basketball season?

The marketing of Football is the same as Hoops and Lax -- unfortunately the success is not the equivalent

People show for winners and excitement -- win, and win excitingly and the masses will show ... regardless of economics.

I do not buy poor economy as an excuse -- people drive in blizzards to watch the hoops team play Wagner ... and did so during the deep recession

Win, win excitingly, and they will come

Support for the football program is what it is. I would recommend not thinking about it or being happy for any support at all.

I agree...winning is the best tonic for all attendance woes. JUST WIN, BABY!

Yep, might as well be in Uganda. I see people tending their banana plants as I drive in from the Thruway.

For crying out loud, the unemployment rate in the Syracuse area as well as here in Boston has been way below the national average for years. The malls are full as are the restaurants - I know because when I visit I have to reserve days in advance. The lack of attendance will be cured by one thing: WINNING.

No but economic decisions have to be made by many as to where they want to spend their decreased disposable income, and they are choosing basketball where SU has a greater recent history of success.

As usual, you haven't a clue.

Seriously, go back to the Beagle board.

People will always choose to eat even go out to eat over a sporting or entertainment event.
Not saying people don't have any money, but the economic numbers game is less favorable than it was before Carrier, New Process Gear, Syracuse China, and many other large and smaller businesses downsized or completely moved out.
If you can not see this economic reality then there is nothing more that can be said.

No...but the price (decreases) of ticket does.
Shocker...pricing matters? There's a large group on here that disagrees. I don't know the answer but I'd love to know how many kids from Syracuse attend cuse on a yearly basis

Sorry but i dont agree with the economics reasons. Its more the patheticness of CNY and not realizing and appreciating the fact that they have the only BCS football Team in NY with a domed stadium exempt from the elements.

They have no problem making the mid week trips for hoops but that would stop fast of we were to dip a little.

They dont care or are poser fans plan and simple

I can understand people not going to games, because with the exception of last season we've been pretty hard to watch for a really long time. All those years of uninspiring football add up for the local Joe.

I think it's also a chicken-egg/snowball type thing (not sure how to phrase that). It is a lot of fun to go to a game at the dome when there are 45,000 people, and a genuine energy in the stadium. But seeing a game in the dome when there are 22,000 people, and it is dead inside, kinda sucks and is probably not as good of an experience as just watching at home on your 50'' tv. The bottom line is that in 2013 you get a much better 'view' of a football/basketball game at home, so if you go to the game in person, you are going for the experience of being part of the crowd more so than the experience of actually watching the game.

The problem is that people will not want to go to these games until they offer the right atmosphere, but that atmosphere will not exist until people start going to the games.
