I wonder what a parent or potential recruit thinks about the news blackout on things like Spring practice or lack of events like signing day news or even pro days news? I post this link http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/04/alabama_spring_football_week_4.html this article talks about a spring practice at Alabama. It is pretty in depth and talks about specific players and who the coach mentioned as standing out. There are also articles about pro days and spring scrimmages and all sorts of articles about the team. Now if your a parent of a top recruit or maybe even a mid-level recruit who could play at Alabama or Syracuse which would you prefer the no news must be good news from Syracuse or the articles from Alabama that might mention your son standing out at practice and giving you memory fro the scrapbook? I submit that if your son is going off to college to play sport you want to be able to read about him or hear news about him all that you can, rather than hearing hear the coach come out once a month or less and just talk about we dont want to be labeled before we have a chance to not be labeled. Winning will solve a lot of things for football but winning requires that you recruit well. I submit that because of todays culture and the immediate gratification that youngsters want you need to have excitement around the program. Parts of that is being open and sharing info with people including the parents and relatives of players who may live a 1000 miles away. Who wouldn't want to read about their child getting props from the coach in the media? Lets face it, from the boring offense, to the lack of excitement of signing day, to the closing off the walls around the program there is a lack of pizzazz in the program. This is not your grandparents football anymore. Its time to show not only the fans some pizzazz its time to show recruits and the parents of potential recruits that if they send there sons a thousand miles north that they will still be able to follow them through the news like they did in high school when football is in session.
