after wake, the offense has averaged 4.55 ypg against p5. that's bad. 4.84 if you toss LSU/Mahoney.

there's a chance that Wake is just terrible. UNC had 538 yards on 59 plays.

this doesn't bode well.

on the other hand, they totally shut down bc. if they're terrible, maybe we can shut down BC too

we have 3 dungey p5 games to work with here. 1 good, 2 bad. and dungey's not the issue, his passer rating was 255, 132, and 160. 132 isn't great but it's not bad either.

if we have lousy yards per play and good passing efficiency, we're not passing enough

Throwing more also should get the ball to our two best skill players more - Ish and Erv. As much as I think we all like Fredericks, I wouldn't put him on the same level as those two. Maybe not Estime either.

IMO we are underutilizing our WRs. I would love to see us try and hit Estime on a slant or drag. He has had a few outs and a few deep passes only. Ish needs the ball more as well. He had 2.5 catches per game as a true frosh but has only upped that to 3.0 this year. Combined the 2 WR positions have 36 catches compared to the single position XB having 29 catches.

Agreed. But he can catch out of the backfield some. I'm also thinking more to Ishmeal. That catch in OT was really nice.

they need to get the ball to estime too in the passing game

estime, phillips, and ishmael should have more than half the receptions.

we don't throw enough and when we do it's to the wrong guys.

in 2012, our 3 best receivers caught 61% of the passes. this year, the top 3 have 48%

We might not be passing enough because the kid is running for his life on nearly every play.

screens

throwing screens all the time let teams tee off on WR last year

not throwing screens at all lets teams tee off on QB this year

they're overcorrecting

worst case, they keep dungey in one piece for someday when they can get in anyone's way

The offense makes no friggin' sense.

It's that simple.

The one thing I've learned this year is that just because you disagree with an idiot doesn't mean you're smart or capable. Last year's second half is looming larger every day.

I don't know why we can't run the ball. We keep bringing in WR to block and we sometimes bring in WR to carry the ball and we never throw quick passes to fast guys. It's like that doesn't confuse anyone

This is what's making me more nuts than anything. We are running the option several times a game now, but we can't manage to throw one friggin' quick slant to Ishamel or Estime. Honestly I don't understand what we're trying to do in the passing game at all.

I did not watch the game on TV. I was there sitting at an angle at the top of the first tier in the endzone towards which Dungey ran at the end of the first half. Not great seats - pretty far away from anything other than the near redzone.

For that reason, much of the game for me was Rorschach.

So, the general, overall impression I got was that Dungey didn't have time to do anything but quick outs. I'm not sure he could have completed an effective screen pass.

And what I also recall is that it seemed that we got too enthralled with wingback motion - too many guys going east-west before the snap - at least in the beginning of the game.

The bottom line for me - what makes me feel positive. Is that for the first time since McNabb we seem to have a truly dynamic QB.

So, if it takes more screens, go for it.
