I have been saying that we would find out who we are in the Liberty game and I think, to a large extent, we did.

First of all, we learned that the QB competition was real and that Dino is not willing to bet his survival on TD. The job is now Shrader`s to lose. Note that Babers was unwilling to have TD play even one down when GS had his helmet pop off. Instead, he spent a TO so that GS could continue to play.

We already knew that Sean Tucker was special but this performance was against a very good defense. Is there was any doubt he deserves #44? Adams looked good as well and will probably grow in importance.

Shrader has the potential to be a good starter. He hasn't played in almost 2 years and is clearly rusty. He's better than a 40% passer. If he settles in at 55ish percent or better we could go bowling.

His running ability is excellent and when combined with Tucker and Adams, especially when in a two running back set, presents a formidable problem for defenses. (Especially, in the red zone.) The passing game will be wide open as teams are forced to load the box.

I had been unconvinced about the 3-3-5 as we had owned West Virginia when Holgorsen ran it. Hackett had it figured out pretty well. However, this defense is real. Last night was the first test this year against a high-powered offense and they passed with flying colors. Yes, the secondary got burned badly a couple of times but the youngsters will grow as the season goes on.

Six sacks against an elusive Mark Willis is impressive. Even more so was the goal line stand when the game was on the line. And the fumble recovery, well, it may have been the most important play of the season.

We have many potential Sunday players on this unit - more than I thought.

Stupid penalties still plague this team. If not cleaned up, it will cost us a game or two before the season is over.

In my mind, the jury is still out on the offensive line. With the Shrader offensive scheme, they just have to be serviceable. We'll see.

Attendance is disappointing to say the least. Even so, the Loud House was effective last night. Imagine what it will be like with 40,000+.

This game was very encouraging. We beat a Top 25ish team. We hung with them on both sides of the ball and finished the game competently.

Shrader may yet save Dino's job.

If Dino saves his job, I think it'll be more than just Shrader that does it. It feels like we've said for years that we had young guys that just needed to mature, but now we finally have young guys in a lot of starting and primary back up spots all over the field. If we can go bowling this year, there is legitimate hope another step could be taken next year.

I really hope we're seeing some legitimate crawling that's leading toward walking.

Tucker - I knew he was really good. But he was really really good against Liberty. I think he’s a rare guy and it’s not like he’s doing this as a senior. He is special and I haven’t seen many players I could classify as that since I’ve been a fan - 30 yrs give or take.

shrader - I said in another post, the guy started as a freshman like 6-7 games in the SEC. He couldn’t have been throwing like that to be in SEC games, pretty sure he had a solid game against LSU. Right, he didn’t throw like that 2 years ago lol….. So I theory he has to improve at least a little. I never believe in unlimited upward trajectory but he hasn’t played in over a year but he has been practicing and throwing since last year. So really not sure what to think. His difference in velocity on throws has the feel of nerves though. IMO.

I think on D we have to expect to get beat on deep balls, by good QB’s, in this defense. The gap they kept throwing to on the sideline between the defenders will likely be there quite often in most games. If you watch our previous games, minus maybe Albany. Chestnut has been caught on deep passes, where the WR gets behind him, multiple times. Sometimes they’ve been converted (at least twice) and other times they haven’t. With a good QB they connect more often than not.

But he’s a freshman and I think his net positive plays, very solid tackling more than make up for the few teams we play that can burn him a few times. He’ll improve too and it’s not a surprise he’s been caught as a freshman.

If we beat FSU I think attendance improves a lot. WF isn’t a sexy team to get people to the game but I bet there were a lot of people who wished they attended Friday. We beat FSU and WF and that Clemson game is going to be nuts.

I beg to differ on your Shrader point.

He wasn’t really much of a passer in his $€¢ days either.
You’re making an assumption.
An incorrect one.

He was basically the homeless man’s Tebow.
There, and here.

In 10 games there, he averaged 9 for 15, for 117 yards.
A little under 1 passing TD/game, and 1 INT every other game.
Meh.

Here’s hoping he can upgrade that to a poor man’s Dungey this season.

I don’t disagree. I looked at his stats awhile ago. Mostly nothing that said, wow look at that potential. Weirdly, I think his QBR was better than TD. In no way saying he’s as good a passer as TD and QBR isn’t a great indicator. But overall I recall he didn’t throw very often in most games. But he was a freshman in the SEC. So really my question overall is, can he improve at least some in the next few games. I just don’t know.

The offense will continue to have stupid penalties playing “chameleon” and juggling all the OL.

Specials is clearly less tight post Lustig.
