What will it take for McCord to suit up in the bowl?
I agree with you the playoff has made the bowl games much less significant. Remember though, that once you begin playing football you are taking a big risk. Lots of under 8 kids, middle schoolers and HS kids are injured before getting recruited. But, football is a Catch-22 situation. You have to play in lots of games to get to the game. And, once you are fortunate to get drafted many more games to get to Super Sunday. Hypothetical: I also agree the corporations that run the bowls AND TV should pony up and share the money evenly with every player on both teams. But, another scenario, what if another NFL ready to be drafted player on the other team gets injured badly or Kyle McCord drops back to pass and gets blindsided by the opposing LT and breaks his ribs, arm, has a concussion or his knee is gone from the hit and his career is over. What the hell difference would the money make? Every player on every team in America who plays football at the P4 level risks serious injury every game. I think the bowl games should be brought back – Orange, Cotton, Sugar, Rose Bowl - teams decided upon by wins and SOS. Put the best teams, best records together to play. The only reason there are more bowls is because of politics and money and because millions of people want to see the games played. Huge amounts of, (and I’ll say it again MONEY), is wagered across the world. So what if some kid is injured and can’t play again, look how much I just won. WOW! In the 1950s they weren't considered real games at all. You basically earned a vacation in a warm climate. The idea that bowl game results mean so much is a newer concept. It used to mean a lot just to get invited.
