(For purposes of this thread, let's assume Hop is serious about exploring HC options.)

Apparently BC is not the "ideal fit" or "perfect storm" or something.

So, what is the best job that Hop could realistically get? Most 1st time head coaches head to the smaller 1 bid leagues and have to prove themselves. Only a lucky few get BCS caliber jobs right off the bat, even fewer if they are not Coach K disciples. And a fair amount (e.g. Izzo, Hoiberg, Ollie) had prior relationships with their schools.

As much as they are struggling post-Skinner, BC checks off almost every box a novice head coach could want. There's no reason they can't be returned to respectability, and that would be deemed a success by nearly everyone. It's not like Carolina or Kentucky is gonna be calling. Gotta start somewhere.

Syracuse.

If he left now or soon major conference but struggling team is the best he could do.

The best he can do is Syracuse, why would he risk losing it by going to a lower level school and not getting it done there?

BC is probably going to hire someone else because it would look awful for them if Hop left them in 2-3 years to come back. I'm sure this is a factor at other schools, but you can't lose a coach to a school in your own conference without looking absolutely pathetic...even more than BC has looked the last couple of seasons.

They always say you never want to follow a Legend, every other breathe he will be compared to JB. As we all know those are some big big shoes to fill.
