Cutting in to our play by play to keep promoting the two Blues. I'm sorry, but that is just ignorant.
I was losing my mind over this.Cutting in to our play by play to keep promoting the two Blues. I'm sorry, but that is just ignorant.
Super annoying. However, if us and L'ville had better teams they probably would have put more attention on our game. From ESPN's perspective, they're broadcasting a decent team that's not eligible for the post season against a mediocre team on/near the bubble. Add the fact that it's only kind of a rivalry and you realize ESPN wasn't working with much. I'm not saying it was right, but I can see why they did it.
NO matter who was playing, they showed complete disrespect for the teams playing with their continuous pumping of the Duke-UNC game. It could have been two D3 teams and if they were good enough to schedule for that time, then they should be good enough to concentrate on. If D/UNC is the ultimate rivalry, they why was it necessary to plug it so much. Does their marketing research indicate that they have to do that to draw/keep an audience?Super annoying. ESPN used to be a go to network for sports. Now it's becoming a near last resort.
Last night was as poor an example of professional broadcasting as I've ever witnessed. The producers/directors of that telecast should be made to go back to gopher status. The blatant disregard for our game was only exceeded by the babbling nannies at North Carolina.
If ESPN doesn't realize how disrespectful our game was treated, they need to be ashamed of themselves. While we may have been the lesser interest on a national scale to the "Two Blue" game, we still should have been at given our own segment of time without the discourteous cut aways, graphics and drivel provided for the "other" game.
My list of college basketball broadcast pet peeves
There are probably more but that's just off the top of my head.
- Missing game action to show the crowd cheering. If I was at the game, would I be staring at the crowd? Then why am I watching it now?
- Going to split screen to talk about a game that HASN'T EVEN STARTED. That obviously just got added to my list last night. I was just livid. If they want to do that coming back from the commercial for 30 seconds - fine I can live it. But to go on for that long was just freaking ridiculous.
- Bizarre camera angles - If I wouldn't want to be in the arena watching the game from that perspective, don't show it to me on tv.
- Announcers who consistently misidentify players - We're all human so I can deal with a mistake. But not multiple mistakes throughout the game.
- Not saying who a foul was on and how many fouls the guy has

Not updating you on the number of team fouls. I really think this should be a stat listed near the number of Time Outs remaining.
I've been thinking this all season. I would also like to see them add the number of fouls for individual players, or at least guys that have 2 or more fouls in the first half and three or more in the second half. They don't have to have it up constantly, but you would think they could find a way to cycle it up on the screen every few minutes or something.

A lot of arena's have the # of fouls of who is on the floor at any one time for each team on the main score board. Makes sense to me to at least flash such a thing especially after a foul was committed. But of course they would then also have to recognize who is actually on the floor. How many times has a substitution been made whit out ESPN acknowledging it?I've been thinking this all season.
