I have been mulling over this season. Last year's team had two guys (G & Malachi) who could create for themselves. This tear's team does not have a single player who can create a shot for themselves other than out of control drives to the hoop. Additionally, Cooney had a very quick trigger when open. All of our three point shooters this year have medium to slow release times. Those two guys were also well above average as athletes. On this year's team the best athlete is probably Roberson, whose athleticism is accompanied by a very limited skillset. Last year's team had a will to win, this year's team plays like a bunch of quitters, which is the worst thing you can say about an athlete. Many on this forum have putting excessive blame on White & Gillon because they weren't "SU" guys. That is absurd in and of itself. We have had plenty of one and dones who have made major contributions. Bad as things are they would be even worse wo those two. The D is beyond atrocious. There are two basic elements to playing D regardless of the system. First and foremost is the hustle and determination factor. The second is sufficient athleticism to execute by a hustling and determined player. This team definitely lacks hustle and pride in the D efforts, but we also lack the athletes to execute against better teams. Last year's team (which by the way was really just north of mediocre until the FF run) was on the same page with the staff. This year there is no comradarie with the staff or each other. I seriously think the game has been gradually passing Jimmy by for years in both recruiting and style. This year is just an ultimate culmination of what has been building up. This team is hard to like, but the one thing I dislike the most is the "bully" factor. I hate that we roll it up against cupcakes and then absolutely fold against any team that will punch back. That is the ultimate in mental weakness.
