The last two years have been depressing watching Duke and Uconn cut down the nets. I don't think very many people on this board are satisfied just winning 25 games anymore. Our rivals seem to be passing us and we keep getting snakebit each year by injuries or the NCAA. I'll ask the question everyone wants answered. When will we have a team that can win six in a row in March? Most people don't think that will be next year, so when will it be? I'm usually extremely optimistic, but I'm starting to fear we are headed in the wrong direction.

I would have said next year, if we'd landed Bryant / retained McCullough.

Now? We need some help. Here's hoping our incoming freshman class lives up to the billing, and that a stud prospect who can potentially put us over the top like Battle chooses to come here. It would also help if we get some relief from the excessive scholarship reductions that the NCAA imposed. Otherwise, I fear that we've got a long wait.

If all four develop as expected I suppose it's possible in 2017. I just don't like the position we are currently sitting in. I'd like to be able to compete against Louisville, Duke, UVA, and UNC. If we keep losing to those schools I fear we are in trouble. We are 1-5 against Duke and UVA the past two years.

I believe we have systemic issues: the zone - while a wonderfully effective defense - requires certain personnel with specific traits, or at least we appear to target certain recruits - few of whom seem to be efficient outside shooters. The college game is so heavily weighted toward the 3 point shot that it skews everything else: TO margin, post play and even rebounding %. Note that Duke's pressure man to man is rather leaky, but they make up for it with very efficient use of the 3. When they have a credible post threat like Okafor they vie for titles.

IMO it's quite simple: score as efficiently as possible, which in the college game means make best use of the short 3 point line. Our system - when properly populated - is very tough, but I suspect we'll only vie for titles when we have an elite 4 man and at least one efficient 3 point threat. We always seem to have a decent 5 and a good 1. IMO we struggled this year because our 1 was weak and our potentially elite 4 went down early, triggering major adjustments from that point on.

If Kaleb makes a leap this year or next, or we bring in a very good 1, I'll feel better. Absent a high-scoring forward (probably the 4 man) I don't think we are a title threat near term.

Next year! Yes, the answer is next year.

Impossible to predict such a thing in advance. Who would have predicted UConn in 2011 or 2014? One year they were coming off a post-season ban... the other year, they finished NINTH in the Big East Conference. In 2002-2003, we were not ranked pre-season. Nor were we ranked pre-season in 2009-10 (the all-but-for-Arinze's-injury year).

I used to work with a man who kept reminding us that "sufficient unto each day is the evil thereof." It is a pretty good mantra. Why worry about some impossible-to-know potential negative event in the future? Why go through life assuming doom and gloom? Assume the best is possible ... and work to make it happen.

This attitude has served me pretty well. And I have had a pretty good life.

We need to compete for ACC titles first and start beating the Duke, UVA's and such. I can't see us competing for a title any time soon, at least until we find a superstar or two.

2015-16 No

2016-17 Good chance if Coleman is healthy, Richardson stays, Battle signs, Roberson is a senior, Lydon can shoot (Starting lineup could be Battle, Richardson, Lydon, Roberson and Coleman) 3 shooters, post-up scorer in DC, Battle a true lead guard, Good size (6'5, 6'6, 6'8 6'8 6'9)

2017-2018 To far down the road to know what the roster will look like

If you go back to the NCAA championship history, the NCAA considers the 1939 Oregon team the first, and count how many years it took for us to win our first, it looks like we've got around 52 more years to wait.

Great Post CTO. I'm usually extremely optimistic, but the last couple of months haven't been the greatest. I would have to think Coach Boeheim and the rest of the staff is extremely motivated after the past year so that is a plus.

unless the crippling penalties are heavily reduced, then sometime in the next decade

If we ever get a true "difference maker" (a Melo, Okafor, Anthony Davis, etc...) then immediately. Otherwise, it could take some time given the current roster and PG situation.

You know I have 2017 on my calendar...in my backyard in Phoenix. We can do 2016 also, that is ok with me.

what crippling penalties ? the scholarships ? we operate with less than 13 all the time.

and how often does Coach play or go 10 deep anyway.

This has been my desktop for the last month its only missing mccullough...
I think this was the last photo of the season I have seen posted here.

Most of our Final Fours come out of Left Field.

We were in the elite eight and final four two and three years ago.

We've had down periods before and always bounce back.

Back to back NITs in 81 & 82 and 07 & 08; NIT in '97; an 8 seed in '99; a 7 seed in '85 & 95 and a 6 seed in '83, '92 & '04

You are spoiled by the '09 to '14 run (2 ones, 3 threes and a 4; 2 Sweet Sixteens and Elite Eight and a Final Four)

There have been 37 postseasons since they started giving seeds for the NCAA tourney.

In those 37 postseasons we have been:

a 1 to 4 seed:20 times (54%)
a 5 to 8 seed: 9 times (24%)
9 seed or below: never
NIT: 6 times (16%)
Postseason ban: 2 times (5%)

Don't sweat it...

The pattern says 2022 or 2023. We go to a Final Four almost exactly on 10 year centers.

We do pretty much every night. A few times during they day as well if I have some down time to day dream.
