Where is the D talent?

I do think ERob is a big issue, but even with a decent DC we have little talent to work with in the front 7. Secondary seems fine just young.

Problem is I don’t see how this gets better next year when we will be forced to play a bunch of FR and RS FR in the front 7 next year.

That has been the most noticeable thing. Even coming into the year that was the question. We have an experienced DL, but mostly just bodies. I hope they didn’t spend too much on Reese. He and Bryant have been a huge disappointment. I’ve said in the other thread the best guys are the young ones. Samuel, Peal, Antoine, Tremble.

We’re getting ran all over because the LB/Safety play is extremely poor. Out of all the positions to recruit LB has to be the easiest. It’s shocking how poor we are at the position. I like seeing Tremble get more run. You need guys his size and speed.

We have some nice prospects coming in next class, but they won’t be ready for next year. They’re going to have to make some smart moves in the portal to help gap us until hopefully 1 or 2 of those high level prospects
develop and our young guys who are playing well now are upperclassmen all-acc players….Thats hoping none transfer.

We didn't spend enough in the portal on D. That's the reality. We lost Watson because of money. A guy like Reese was a bargain guy relatively speaking. The portal is usually just about money -- it's not a sustainable way for us to build a roster for the most part. I was encouraged to see some younger players along the line, like the Canadian yesterday. Maybe we can spend big on a tackle but it's hard to expect that. It's going to be developing guys.

I was a huge fan with both of the big Canadian defensive lineman they brought in. Great size and athleticism. Canada is an area where there are diamonds in the rough that aren't recruited hard. I don't see them paying for defensive guys in the portal, maybe more to retain certain guys. Someone like Watson would have been a huge help this season.

We are getting run over because our DL doesn’t hold up and the opposing OLs have guards and tackles going down the field and washing out our LBs and secondary. The big problem is up front.

Hard to compete in college football these days as a private school. There is just not enough money. It was hard before NIL and now it seemingly even harder
