if JB coached the whole season?

I assume we win 2-3 of Wisc, Clemson St.J and Georginatown

Where would be ranked if we never lost?
Didn't SMU go undefeated without its coach for 9 games?

He actually coached them against Wisconsin, but I'm willing to blame Hop for that one anyway.

Nah, that loss rests clearly on JB's shoulders as he could've done more for his team at the charity stripe in regulation...they were 11-20. ;)

18-6 would put us in the top 20.
Doubtful. We haven't gotten a single vote in either poll yet. There are 46 teams with votes in the AP
poll and 44 teams with votes in the Coach's poll. We are 44th in the RPI. Beating FSU and BC this
week won't jump us 25 places. I think there are many teams with votes in the polls that are not
close to SU in talent. But unless they lose or SU wins impressively (which we have not done consistently),
SU won't move up.

Regarding how we are perceived. I think too many pollsters have a hangover from last years self-imposed ban, poor record, garnished by this years banishment of Boeheim from the sidelines for 9 games to give us any credit. Throw in the fact that those who do have any awareness of our team probably know we are not deep and therefore view us as being held together by string and rubber bands. World class we are not, but I think we are better than many realize. Anyway, I would rather be underrated and sneak up on folks than have opponents jacked up and ready to play out of their minds.

Probably in the teens. If you add 2 more wins [let's just say for arument sake that we win against Clemson [we blew that one] and one of the other Hop games, we'd have a record comparable to several ranked teams, with quality wins [including road wins] padding our resume.

We've been playing like a top 25 caliber team since JB's return, with a few hiccups. And the win streak we're on would help our cause. Here's hoping we avoid the dreaded February swoon.

You didn't look closely enough at the record I posted. 18-6, not 18-8

We wouldn't be ranked.

Disagree. I think we win 3 of the 5 that we lost. St. John's is a definite, the other four were winnable games.

That puts us at 19-5, 18-6 minimum in my opinion. That's a Top 25 team resume.

I said the same and got bashed in a different thread. The argument was that JB lost to them last year, however, that was a very different St. John's team. They had solid seniors, who had played against the zone many times. This years Johnnies, are horrible! It was a bad bad loss.

I think we would be ranked if there was no suspension. I think we would have won Wisky, and St Johns, and Clemson.

We were #14 coming out of the Bahamas. Losing to Gtown would of cost us about 3. The losses away to Pitt and Miami would have been about 4 spot drop. Then the loss to NC would have cost us about 2 more. The loss to VA another 1 or 2 spot drop. The current couple weeks of winning probably would have had someone above us lose moving us up to around the #21 or #22 mark.

But that goes both ways, we can't blame Hopkins for Malachi shooting 2% from three during some of those losses.

if we beat st johns and clemson we'd be ranked in the 20's i think, and if not then we'd be receiving votes.

The one thing Boeheim has done when any of the starters are not playing well is put them on the bench for more than a few minutes at a time. Even with limited options. Cooney, Richardson, and Roberson have been pulled from games recently when not playing well. I think JB would have had Malachi on the bench against St John's quite a bit more than Hopkins did, or he would have told Malachi to cut down on his shooting. He had 8 more shots than any other SU player that day. Since JB has returned to the bench, I think both Cooney and Richardson have taken fewer low percentage shots.

the problem with the st johns game was our defense. the 2nd half it seemed like st johns got a layup or wide open 3 on every possession.

It was a team effort on both sides of the court for SU in that game. Team shot 19.2% on 3-pointers, 35.8% overall. 61.3% from the FT line. 9 assists vs. 22 for SJU. Simply a horrible effort. Against a team that hasn't won since that game.
