Right on. This is the reality today for Syracuse athletics. I would also add that the ACC is heavily skewed towards basketball, even though the last few years have been pretty abysmal. The ACC isn't the fit that the Big East was for basketball, but it can work.

The unfortunate part of big time college athletics is that football drives the money train, and it would take a miracle for a program like us to become a major player.
It's a tough call, for sure. I think you are spot on - we are built like a basketball school that is playing football to keep the money rolling. Unfortunately, I worry that the financial demands of trying to compete equally in every sport ensures that we will be mediocre in all of them.

If we could go back in time, I'm not sure we would join the ACC. I think we all can agree that the Big East fan experience was significantly better. Syracuse playing in Madison Square Garden was a national treasure as far as I'm concerned.

For better or worse, I *expect* basketball to be good, I *hope* football is good each year.

Right now at least I know Fran can get to 10 wins if he can land the right portal guys / have the right QB. I will say, the post-Angeli part of this season has made me pause on that.

Our basketball brand should still have clout. We seem to have the support to bring in talent.

I guess I was just spoiled. I was born in '79, so my memories of Cuse athletics really start in the mid 80s and go onward. And when I was a kid / going to high school, it was great having a competitive football and basketball team. Then I was at SU as a frosh in '98, McNabb's senior year / the junior year for J Hart/Etan on the bball team. I remember being pissed by both teams (football had that BS loss to Tenny which we got ref'd, but they also lost to WVU and NCSU and I thought that was the end of the world, the orange bowl we were outclassed) and the bball team was in the 8/9 game and lost to Okie St.

I was LITERALLY disappointed by those season outcomes! How absurd to think about that now! I would take those years for the football and basketball teams in a heartbeat now.
