It seemed that the refs were trying to be the center of the game. So many whistles. Not the reason for the lost but it made the game so hard to watch. Both teams in the bonus around 1o to go in the first half. The first whistles seem to take SU out of the game and encourage SC then SC beat SU to the double bonus. 2nd half the whistles started going against SC and SU caught up but was then unable to break thorough because of like 6 missed FT in a row.

After checking am stunned that only 40 fouls were called 21-19 SC!

SC committed 10 fouls and we committed 3 by like the 14min mark of the 2nd half. We failed to take advantage. Refs seemed rusty early on but clearly not even a top 10 reason of why we lost

We shot 26 free throws, they shot 19. We shot 61% from the line, they shot 73%.

We just sucked, nothing to do with the refs or anything else.

Eh, they sucked in the first half (early on especially), but you can't complain at all about the second half from our perspective. They just generally sucked, it certainly didn't lose this one for us. I know you didn't say it did. Just adding on.

Frank complains about some weird foul calls though.....I mean, near decapitation is usually a foul. He argued against that one soooooooooooo passionately!

Absolutely agree. Forgot to say that in my post. Was going to but forgot being so aghast that ONLY 40 fouls were called.

forgot to say that the refs were doing such starnge things that the TV guys couldn't even follow. Not that they were that good but they were so lost at times on what the refs were calling.

That play in the 1st half were TT fouled the 3pt shooter was weird. I thought it was clearly a foul, I was shocked they didn't call it, but even more surprised when they reviewed it. It made sense why after the explanation - but I agree, the 1st half was really weird overall.

We did not play well and that is why we lost. On the other hand the way the refs call a game certainly effects the outcome. Though particular calls did not cost us the game, the style of play grinded to a halt and the level of physicality tolerated limited our player's effectiveness. It's the Pitt/ville/vatech philosophy that they can't call everything and even if they do it slows the game down which it to their advantage.

It's hard to watch basketball with so many stoppages in play, official reviews, tv timeouts. I feel like we always struggle in those games.

I thought our game plan at the beginning if the 2nd half was good but we could not capitalize. We have to learn how to combat the ugly style bball. Oh yeh, we talkin bout practice.

The reason we didn't play well is because we are required to play like crap against any team that plays like a Jamie Dixon Pitt or a Brad Stevens Butler. It's one of those laws of the universe.

While there were plenty of whistles, there were also plenty of no calls that likely should have been whistles, and on more than just fouls. This was just a sloppy game by both teams.

Dammit, I missed it! (Feel free to bump it, I'd like it 10 times if I could after all my requests!) I used to HATE seeing that 40 times a game as the only reason Pitt ever won, but it's kinda like the abused wife syndrome...after awhile you not only get used to it, but miss it when it's gone. Is that the Stockholm Syndrome(tm) too as well? Ive forgotten more of my humor than many will ever know!

Anyhow, after such a brutal b***-r***ng, I'd rather spend my energy picture situations where clutching and grabbing are enjoyable instead!

I've taken to calling those defenses opportunistic cheaters.

That's quite honestly all they are. It isn't good defense.

It's also why Pitt never made it far in the tourney, the refs are way more prone to call those fouls because NCAA doesn't want those teams stinking up the S16 and E8.

Like the New England Patriots? Or is Kentucky the only organization we can say that about 40x a week on here now? I'm calling everyone into the ring today after my initially brutal beatdown of NYCSUgrad today. Hopefully she sees this and knows it wasnt personal. I was upset before the loss, but now I'm in a nosedive after having just committed to driving 15 hours to Madison after this s***-show! Boy, could a go for a Genny now!!
