I just did this post about evaluating college football schedules and victories:
http://syracusefan.com/threads/who-did-you-beat.18165/

I couldn't resist doing the same thing for the two top college basketball teams, as of this moment:

seems unnecessarily complicated, when you can just check the SOS numbers as they are already computed. Every rating system agrees that SU has had the more difficult schedule (although UK's has not exactly been weak, and SU's has not exactly been a minefield)

Sagarin
SU 27
Kentucky 66

Pomeroy
SUm 39
Kentucky 58

Palm
SU 12
Kentucky 55

Since the RPI actually mostly works in BB, why not use that? We got savaged by guys like Dookie Vitale when we had a bad schedule by use of the RPI and the RPI's version of the SOS.

Look at all the top teams competing for the number one overall seed, and we see how weak the complaints about our schedule are.

(deleted rant about ESPN and unfair coverage)

Well the pundits seem to ignore the current system of rankings: why not throw somehting else at them? It might be good to have a number that tells you how valuable a win is- at least for the moment.
