The chatter is that the Committe used 'who you lost to' as their criteria. They justify it as a way to even the playing field by not punishing mid-majors that do not get a chance to get good wins. However, 'Who you lost to', punishes teams that have a strong OOC. It provides incentive for mid majors to stick to themselves. This is a perverse incentive.
'Who you beat', is an indicator of how competitive a team can be. Why should a team that has only shown that they are consistent against mediocre competition get in rather than an inconsistent team that has shown flashes of competancy at the highest level? Who would not be more scared playing a wildcard Maryland rather than a consistent Montanna?
