I’m as frustrated as most of you guys but the threat of being 1-2 was a real possibility before the season started. Many of us saw the Maryland game as a potential problem and our chances to beat Clemson were always incredibly small. We are kinda who I thought we are. An 8-4 / 9-3 ball club. I have no doubt barring an injury to Devito that we finish this season incredibly strong. This is kinda how many of us thought things could start. It hurts but it’s not that damn shocking. Get off the ledge

I’m not surprised, just disappointed, should be no surprise rise

It wasn’t THAT we lost, it was HOW we lost.
No one expected this much ineptitude, although in hindsight it shouldn’t be a big surprise. New QB, revamped OL, inexperienced wrs, etc.
One of my personal metrics at the beginning of every b-ball season, is the margin of victory over cupcakes in OOC play. If we blow out those teams by 30+ pts, I’m pretty confident that we’ll have a good season. If games are close, I’ve found we tended to struggle.
So a close loss at UMD or to the defending natl champs, wouldn’t have me as concerned as two consecutive blowouts, where we’ve looked lost in almost every facet of the game. Yesterday the defense played well, mistakes on offense doomed us. Yet at UMD it was the opposite & the defense never showed up.
Yes I’m concerned, not for being 1-2, but because I’ve no idea what kind of team this is.

I’ve felt for some time, and still do, that our ceiling is 7-5. So don’t be surprised by 6-6 or 5-7. The Western Michigan game will be telling. But beyond that, road games with FSU, Duke, NC State and even Louisville (yes, Louisville) will be be challenging. Splitting those would be an achievement. Pitt, BC and Wake Forest at home will be tossups. I doubt we win all three.

We need to get to 7 wins somehow for recruiting. Then again we’re also not seeing any uptick from last years success so idk anymore. Seems like as a fan that we can’t expect to outperform our recruiting ranking unless we have the right piece at quarterback. The. Single. Most. Important. Piece.

I don’t remember too many people, if any, thinking we would have a problem at Maryland.

What we definitely didn’t discuss months ago was struggling against Liberty, getting blown out by Maryland, and looking like a Shafer team against Clemson.

Other then that things have gone exactly as the board predicted. Well on our way to one of the bigger bowl games.

Because you won 10 games last year, took the national champs to the wire in their own house, and had every reason to expect a great year. Disappointment sucks but don't regret having hope. That's what makes all fans tick. Coming from one who had to endure (and still hears) "Clemsoning" comments ad nauseam.

And we graduated a couple of fantastic ball players, including a Quaterback that was one of the best in the country. There was a reason Vegas put us at 5.5 wins prior to the start of the season. We were thinking 10-2, the pros 5-7. I think this team will fall somewhere in the middle. The schedule gets much easier from here on out. I believe Babers is a good coach and Devito will get much better. The o-line will gel in the upcoming weeks and the defense will undoubtedly improve. The secondary is real solid, linebackers will continue to grow (big step forward from Maryland to Clemson), and the D-line will get healthy with Williams coming back. We didnt weather the early season storm well, im sick about it myself, but I think this team finds its footing and we can get to 8 or 9 wins.

I thought we would be 0-3 right now and 1-4 after Holy Cross. That was my gut feeling, but I was hoping for far better. Now, after Maryland lost to Temple, can you believe that, I have decided we are just not very good at all.

I was one of them. And I was banned for suggesting that Maryland had more talent. Unsportsmanlike conduct, apparently.

If anyone watched the Maryland-Ohio State game last year had to see that Maryland had great offensive potential. This offense is so bad after three games that saying we are the favorite in any upcoming game is wishful thinking. People don’t like hearing this, but recruiting class rankings don’t lie. Our classes are at the bottom end of the ACC and we still haven’t cracked the top 50.

let's hope Babers, the dome reno, and the new shiny stuff we get from this donor will help to change that. in a hurry.

Is this a real question?

Why am I surprised that we gave up 63 to Maryland, are averaging under 17 ppg and couldn't find the end zone against Clemson in the Dome?

All of the realistic goals for the team are still in play. But that doesn't make me any less surprised in what I've seen the first 3 weeks.
