- Because the teams are similar but they are better. They are 7-4. We are 5-6. We’ve had five common opponents. They beat wake Forest by one more point than we did and NC. State by 3 more. We beat Maryland by 14 more than they did. But they lost to Clemson by 25 points less and Florida State by 42 points less. That totals +57 points for BC, divided by 5 games = an 11 point advantage. That’s about right.

- The reason they are better than we are is that they constructed an offense that played to their strengths. Andre Williams is a 6-0 227 pound running back with power and speed. They have let their offensive linemen fire out and stack the defense with Williams right behind them. He has carried the ball 320 times for a nation-leading 2,073 yards and 16 TDs. We have a 6-0 226 pound running back with power and speed named Jerome Smith who actually outgained Williams last year, 1171-584. Coming into the year no one would have thought to compare Williams to Smith. And they wouldn’t this year, either. Smith has gotten the ball only 166 times. He’s run for a credible 794 yards and 11 scores. We’ve spent way too much time trying to turn Terrel Hunt into Donovan McNabb. Steve Addazio didn’t bother with that and that’s why his team is going bowling.

- BC actually has a passing game. We don’t. Chase Rettig is 136 for 219, (62%) for 1636 yards, (12 yards a catch), 15TD passes and 5 interceptions. Alex Amidon caught 64 of those passes for 843 yards and 5 scores. Terrel Hunt is 119/201 (59%) for 1180 yards (10 a catch) for 8TDs and 7 interceptions. Our leading receiver, the dangerous Ashton Broyld who has 42 catches for only 364 yards. He hasn’t dented the end zone all season. You know we’ll be so focused on Williams that Amidon is going to sneak out there and burn us on one. And you know we aren’t going to be able to do the same thing.

- You also know that our defense will perform valiantly. Then they will tire. Then Williams will take it the distance. Once is probably all they’ll need but they might not stop there.

- We are just to beat up to beat a good team. I know everybody has injuries this time of year but we are bleeding starters and 2 deep guys all over the place. Gulley, Flemming, West, Johnson, Whigham, Hickey, Estime, Raymon, Emerich, Wales, Lyn, Krautman, Marona. Marquis Spruill, Jeremy Wilkes and Ron Thompson are going to play hurt.

I always read both your "why we will/why we won't" posts. Sometimes, (sadly) I have to agree with your "why we won't" posts. Today, your "why we will" wins out in an objective (really?) comparison/analysis. We go bowling.
