Didn't CCSU down the ball in the end one
a few times?
Fwiw I watch a lot of college football, there's not a lot of kicks that hit the end one.
Watching Vatech kicker do this every kick is a huge advantage. Seems like you could find a walk on to do this. Again, huge advantage never allowing the other team to start past 25.
But our coverage has sucked over past 7 or 8 years and the strategy of trying to pin an opponent works for a well oiled like the Pats but has burned us more times that I care to count.Watching the Patriots you want a kicker who drop the ball in between the 1-5 and pin the opponent deep and give yourself an opportunity to cause a fumble.
Our kicker did a solid job. CCSU was a taking a knee when it was one yard deep. Then they started doing those stupid reverse/fake reverses.
Our kick coverage was fine. Just keeping the opponent inside the 30 should be the goal.
Odds are actually better that a return does not pass the 20. Over the long run you get a field position advantage by taking the touchback. It is actually better to kick to the 5 and force a return.
But that's just statistics, more important to be gangster and kick into the stands to show how tough you are. Even better is to go get the ball out of the stands and run it back anyway. This is Syracuse and we don't care about averages and odds and all that crap. Just gimme the damn ball!
On another note, they should just get rid of the audio system all together. The announcer should just scream from the booth. If you can't hear, too bad, that's on you. If you can't understand the refs hand signals, get a life!
I don't want the ball kicked out of the end zone. I want it kicked to inside the 2 or 3 yard line and force the returner to make a decision. With a better coverage team now, you can measure plus or minus yardage from the 25. If we consistently stop the return inside the 25, it's good coverage.Watching Vatech kicker do this every kick is a huge advantage. Seems like you could find a walk on to do this. And it prevents 50 yard returns. One thing about kicking deep with no return...it saves guys from getting injured

UMMMM,...it might save the returner more than anyone else as guys are still getting leveled at the 30.One thing about kicking deep with no return...it saves guys from getting injured
If there was a walk-on out there that could consistently kick the ball out of the end zone, then he wouldn't be a walk-on. He'd have a scholarship offer from every P5 school out there.
Saban doesn't joke around at all.
GaTech agrees.Kicking in college is bad across the board. The elite are truly that. Because kicking is so bad throughout the college game, you see teams willing to go for the first down as opposed to a guaranteed three points when they're within 30 yards or less. Saw it a number of times this past weekend alone.
We've had much bigger issues over the last 7-8 years than kick coverage. But our coverage has sucked over past 7 or 8 years and the strategy of trying to pin an opponent works for a well oiled like the Pats but has burned us more times that I care to count.
Consistently kick into end to take a long run totally out of discussion.
maybe but poor kick coverage has contributed to the mess so why put yourself in a position to be set up?We've had much bigger issues over the last 7-8 years than kick coverage.
It easy to do that when you have 2 first round draft picks behind the starting RB waiting for their chance.Alabama had their starting Running back block a punt against FSU...You play your best athletes on special teams. Saban doesn't joke around at all.
