- Beat Rhode Island and Wake Forest to create dreams of coming into the LSU game a confident 3-0 team and then lose to Central Michigan…When you’re Syracuse, that’s what you do.

- These guys scared me to death a year ago. We’d just lucked out in beating Villanova in a game we deserved to loose. The Chippewas had blown Purdue out of their own stadium 38-17. And now we were playing them in their place. Our 40-3 win was a stunning result and a totally false positive for us. We were 2-0, (just like now), and wound up 3-9. I can’t help thinking that the fates must be paid back for that 40-3 romp.

- We beat Wake Forest rather easily in their place last year, too, 30-7. This year we beat them 30-17. The apparent similarity of those scores in misleading. Last week’s game was very difficult and it looked through most of it that we were going to lose. A couple of late long pass plays turned the game- and the season around. Similarly last year’s 40-3 against Central Michigan tells us nothing about what is likely to happen tomorrow.

- Last week’s game does tell us something that could be relevant to this contest: we have a great deal of difficulty covering a precision short passing attack. And that’s what Cooper Rush is all about. Last year he passed for 3,157 yards and 27 scores, including 493 yards and 7TDs in their bowl game. He’s passed for 553 yards and 3 scores this year. This guy could carve us up even worse than John Wolford did. His top target is Mark Chapman with 12 receptions for 113 yards. But the big star so far is tight end Ben McCord, who is averaging 26.5 yards on 6 catches, one an 83 yard TD strike.

- They gave #25 Oklahoma State all kinds of problems before losing 13-24. It was 13-10 in the third quarter. Rush passed for 265 yards and scored on a 16 yard run in that one. What’s our ranking again?

Yup. You have Wake instead of CMU in title.
