-Because they are better than we are. Since 2005 they are 64-32 while we are 31-61. They have beaten us 6 of 7 games and out-scored us 186-111. More importantly, their success- and their location- enabled them to recruit better players than we have. They’ve lost their last 2 games but they won the 5 for that and the two losses were by a total of 9 points, (one in overtime) to teams with a combined record of 16-1.
- They run a similar offense to South Florida but are better at it. They gain 451 yards per game and score 34 points per game. The Bulls gained 418 yards per game and score 26.5 points per game. Cincy rushes for 221 yards per game, USF for 181. And USF just rushed for 369 against us. How many games are you going to give up 369 yards rushing and still win the game?
- How many games are you going to fall behind by twenty points and win? We are 1-1 this season and that’s an amazing percentage. We fell behind Northwestern 13-35, USC 3-21, Minnesota 3-17, Rutgers 7-23 and USF 3-23. We can’t do this against good teams and expect to come back and win. And Cincinnati is a good team.
- They lost their best defensive lineman, Walter Stewart and we, (may have), lost ours, Jay Bromley. Stewart may even be a better and more important player than Bromley. But they lost Stewart two weeks ago and have already made the adjustments to his absence and they‘ve still played well. We are having to make those adjustments now.
- Doug Marrone said it’s very hard to win on the road, especially late in the season. It was pointed out that the 2010 won four road games and he was asked if this team has the leadership to do that. Doug’s reply? “I don’t know….”
- What are we? A great passing team or a mediocre one? A good running team or a bad one? A team with a strong defense or a weak one? A team that can cover kicks or one that can’t? A team that kicks the ball well or does not? We’ve been all those things this year. We beat Stony Brook to end our losing streak. Then we coughed up 4 turnovers to lose to Minnesota. We slammed Pittsburgh to the mat, then had four more turnovers and a blocked kick returned for a score vs. Rutgers. We came back to dominate a bad team, Connecticut at home, then made another bad team, South Florida, look like a good one. What will be get now? Stay tuned.
