- Because of Trevor Lawrence, who could win the Heisman Trophy.
- Because of Travis Etienne, who could win the Heisman Trophy.
- Because of all the other guys.
- When the Tigers get on a roll, they stay on a toll. Look at their record in recent years: Clemson Historical Scores They are on a roll right now.
- Because of all the guys we don’t have. There are 59 scholarship players available for this game when you can have 85 guys on scholarship, so that’s -26. Clemson will have 85 guys we wish we had and we’d probably giver scholarships to their walk-ons.
- Because we have a swiss cheese offensive line and an out-numbered defensive line.
- Because our starting quarterback isn’t our starting quarterback. In fact, Rex lost the back-up job to Clayton Welch last year and people are thinking maybe he’ll lose this job to a true freshman before the year’s over.
- Because ¾ of our beautiful quartet of junior D-backs that were supposed to keep us in any game: Trill Williams, Andre Cisco, Eric Coley and Iffy Melifonwu are hurt or not playing at all. Our linebackers are beat-up, too.
- Our two famous upsets have a similar scenario: in 1983 we lost 7-63 at Nebraska. In 1984 we got shut out by Rutgers at home. Nebraska had no reason to think we would compete with them. A healthy SU team played the game of their lives, giving as good as they got, staying in the game and making the plays at the end to win the game. then they lost the next three games in a row. In 2016 we lost at Clemson 0-54. In 2017 we lost at home to Middle Tennessee State and Clemson came here with no idea we could compete with them but a healthy SU team rose to the occasion, gave them all they could handle, stayed in the game and made the plays at the end to win nit. Then we lost 5 games in a row. This time we are far from healthy. The game is not in the Dome and the price of that 2017 upset is that Clemson will not be fooled again.
