That kid looked pretty damn good. How can a D1 school like Syracuse swing and miss on QB's for almost 16 years? Even Nova got a solid QB. We get guys who play QB as a second position.

Coaching has a ton to do with it. Based on my untrained eye i really like the kid from the West Coast. My sense he takes over for Hunt after next year

Exactly. We only pay attention to this little schools when they have a stud - we don't see the years they have mediocre to bad QB's...

I'm interested as to why SU has not reached out to Madei Williams, seeing as he's become somewhat of a "QB Training Guru".

Byron Marshal, Chad Pennington. Marshal typically has a good qb.

I think a lot of our failures at qb have been our insistence on recruiting dual threat qbs. Nassib has been our only good qb in 15 years and he was a pocket passer. The weird thing is we haven't even run offenses that really need a dual threat. Recruiting wise I wouldn't mind seeing us put less of an emphasis on running, and more an emphasis on passing.

Byron Leftwich

Also Pennington graduated 2 years after McNabb so can't really say they've been cranking out qb's since we last had a super star.

Also, I think Hunt and Long would clean up against MAC defenses week to week. Hunt certainly did as much vs CMU.

Those guys are contemporaries of McNabb. What about between now and then?

Yeah, and just because a guy is labeled a "pocket passer" does not mean he can't be athletic. I want to have intelligent, pocket passers with some athleticism so they can run five to eight yards for a first down when he sees open field.

IMO QB recruits tend to gravitate to programs that run offense that are "QB friendly". This was supposedly why Zach Allen went to TCU and Colt Brennan went to Hawaii. How many times in the last 20 years have we altered our offense? We have no offensive identity that resonates with recruits.

Nassib was pretty good as a senior. That's it. Please don't make him out to be an All American.

Colt Brennan went to Hawaii because cantor wouldn't allow grob to bring him in.

And why do you suppose he ended up at Hawaii, of all places?
BTW, Merry Christmas!

Wasn't Nassib a wing-t QB? I don't think he was much of any kind of passer pre-SU.

So (getting back to Pete's original post), why do you think Syracuse has been unable to recruit a quality QB over the past 16 years?

I say your only as good as your offensive line, qb can be average but give him time in the pocket and a solid running he can turn out to be great..

You owe me a new computer monitor. Because there's water all over this one now.

Glad I could give you a laugh after this horrible awful season we just had.
