Question: Why Does the NCAA Committee No Longer put weight into the last 10 games a team has played for selection purposes?

Answer: See the 2015-2016 Syracuse Basketball team.

I work at the University of South Carolina. That being said, trust me, I've heard it all over the campus why we were not deserving while they were. The biggest argument that I heard last week, by far, was us going only 5 out of our last 6 games.

This argument (what we did over the last 10 games, is Doug G's biggest point as well. While I understand Doug G's point about our results don't change the fact that we shouldn't have gotten in (even though I completely disagree), what he is missing, among many things, is that the committee obviously saw a team that was capable of playing like what we are seeing. Therefore, they weren't all that concerned with our most recent losses but instead, looked at our full body of work and who we beat and from that, they could see what we were capable of doing if given an opportunity. Well, obviously they were right.

Oh, and around Univ of South Carolina today... crickets. Most people now get it.

Because it doesn't take in to consideration who you played or where you played them.

SC has one of the majors that interests my daughter and we are thinking about heading down there over the summer after one of her club lacrosse tournaments to check out the campus, get a tour etc...

Can you put me in touch with the right people?

Sure can. I'll do whatever I can to help. USC (not the Cali school) has a beautiful campus, weather is good and the cost of living here is excellent. Let me know how I can help.

Terrific. Thanks. I'll reach out via PM as we get closer. If we make the visit to South Carolina , it will be in mid-July..

looking at the last 10 games was stupid. You have to look at the complete body of work. Teams shouldn’t be penalized for playing great to start the year.

I assume most everybody gets and annual review. How fair would it be if you’re whole review hinged on the last 2 weeks of work.

I’d like to know the RPI or SOS schedule over our last 10 games. I’d wager nobody played a more difficult schedule.

Because they determined that last 10 (or 12) games are not necessarily indicative of success is the NCAA tourney.

This year--Seton Hall and MSU both won their league tournaments and lost their first round NCAA games.

Conversely, SU and Wisconsin got bounced in the first round of their league tourneys--the Badgers by double digits to a mediocre Nebraska squad.

I doubt that, if you increased it to the last 12 you'd get the UVA game (#1 in Ken Pom) but we did play a game against BC, which is like 250 in Ken Pom.
If you took the average KP rating of our last 12 opponents, you get 56. That's tough, but I don't think it's ridiculous. I picked a random Big 12 team, Baylor's last 12 games were 33, including TCU at 142.

Everyone keeps mentioning the "last 10" metric and how we lost 5 of our last 6. But, weren't we 5-5 in our last 10? It was never "worst 6 of last 10".
