Why don't we use a QB as the holder for FG or XPs?

I think it used to be more common to have the backup QB hold. I think the Tony Romo Seattle playoff game sacred teams away. They don’t want to be in a situation where the backup QB ends up playing and still has to hold.

Although Romo had been starting for half of the season. They had plenty of time to switch holders.

Yeah but NFL has weird rules about QBs and stuff.

cuz...to run a fake pass play out of a place kick formation we'd have to throw to a TE.
CUSE TABOO

I remember when it used to be more common. I think I heard a coach say one time they liked the punter because he's used to catching long snaps. It does seem to make more sense strategically to have the QB in case of a bad snap or a fake unless you need him to play QB.

You don't waste quarterbacks precious practice time that could be spent learning how to throw touchdown passes

Is that what the backups are doing? If the starter is taking the lion's share of reps what are rhe backups doing during that time?

Really, I don't care. Fakes on kicks are exciting but seldom work.

Eh.

What about the ones not even getting scout team snaps?
