- Because they know how. They don’t have spectacular talent but they know how to win. The last two seasons they are 17-5, (we are 10-12). They’ve done it by playing excellent fundamental football, avoiding mistakes and taking advantage of their opportunities, which we do not do. That key difference will be very prominent tomorrow. - We mockingly doubt Duke’s credentials but they are clearly a better team than Maryland or NC State, both of whom beat us in the Dome. - They are the ACC’s version of Rutgers when it comes to football: a team we would have walked all over if we’d played them for years but who has now learned how to win and is now beating those teams that used to walk all over them. The difference is that we never got to play them when they were doormats. We waited until they could treat us like one. - Anrhony Boone to Jamison Crowder. Coach Shafer compared Crowder to Brisley Estime. He had 49 catches for 636 yard and 4TDs. Estime has 10/140/1 in an injury plagued year. Crowder is everything we hoped Estime would be for us. Boone is a solid field general who has 12 TD passes to only 3 interceptions. - Duke hasn’t committed any turnover sin their last three games. I’ve heard a comparison to alst year’s Syracuse basketball team. A team that didn’t have dazzling scoring punch but who won because they took care of the football, something we have not been doing of late, (it’s hard with inexperienced quarterbacks). They don’t beat themselves. We do. - Which will not prevent Scott Shafer from punting in their territory in the fourth quarter, hoping for a turnover, which will cause a further board melt-down. - Don’t forget Shawn Wilson who is leading Duke in rushing with- get this- a 9.6 average per carry. He put up 254 yards and 3 scores, including a 69 yarder on Kansas. Duke has that 200-200 offense we are always talking about. They average 212 yards rushing and 210 yards passing per game. That’s about as balanced as you get. - Why do other teams have kicker we, (who play in a Dome) wish we had: Ross Martin is 35 for 35 on extra points and 11 for 11 on field goals. Ryan Norton and Cole Murphy are a credible 16/21 on field goals and 17/18 on extra appoints. Maybe the biggest stat is that they’ve attempted 10 fewer field goals and 16 more extra appoints than we have. He will play in front of a line that has turned into wet tissue paper due to injuries. Behind him is the fourth string quarterback, who has taken a couple of snaps in which he handed off. Behind him are a bunch of guys who played quarter in high school but have been moved to other positons in college. Coach Shafer said his wife, Missy was warming up in case we need her. - All those running backs we were proud of got us a net 38 yards rushing behind that crippled line last week: will it be any different this week? - Will attendance, (I mean fannies in the seats) exceed what we got for last February’s basketball game, (35,446). How about the noise level? - Yeah, Duke opened the season with Elon, Troy, Kansas and Tulane. And they beat those teams 52-13, 34-17, 41-3 and 47-13 so: You wanna make a big deal out of it? - Hold out your crucifixes at these Blue Devils: They beat G – E – O – R – G – I – A – T – E – C - H
