I have been watching Sportscenter for 60 minutes now and have not seen one college basketball highlight (save for the Top Ten Plays at the close of the 9:00 a.m. broadcast).

The #1 team in the country played a game last night and ESPN is instead airing talking segments about future NFL games and hypothetical playoff scenarios.

Wow, that was quick.

Still, a four-second, one-play segment is rather short.

They showed more from Jb presser question about being sued than they did about the game

They seemed bored with the game and excited for the presser

This was my take from last nights sportscenter

ESPN news carries more highlights than Sportscenter.

I saw last night's show in a bar with no audio, so I made a point of watching this morning's edition and figuring out what Boeheim was saying. Now it makes a little more sense. (How foolish of me, sitting in the bar and telling my friend that Boeheim was probably giving a Dion injury update.)

The presser was the news... It was JB's first press conference at home since the lawsuit was filed.

As for the game, Like ESPN I was bored with it too... Because it was the very definition of "ho-hum."

What did you want them to treat it like? A late February Big East showdown?

Should they have analyzed it like they did the NC State game?

It was what it was... A boring game against an overmatched opponent where JB experimented with various lineup combinations in front of a half-full Dome.

If the locals can't get up for this game, why do you expect ESPN to?

The #1 team played a nobody and won without breaking a sweat... Not exactly big news.

Not sure why you expected ESPN to give it much attention.

It goes to show why college football is driving the reallignment and not college bball.
If LSU football beat La Tech by 100 they would do 15 minutes on the game with interviews with Les Miles and the players. They would break down every touchdown and dissect every tackle.
When the top teams in college bball blow out mid majors they get 30 seconds of air time 30 minutes in to Sportcenter after such riveting segments such as FIU losing to Marshall in a bowl game that no one cares about.

wow you took a lot out of nothing

I can't speak for this morning, but last night's sportscenter showed quite a bit. It was second up on the dock behind the Ohio St. sanctions. They showed threes by Scoop and Southy, a couple plays from Fair including the oop, the MCW signature slam, and a whole bunch of KJO plays, specifically highlighting his well-rounded scoring ability. Followed up by a snippet from the presser.

I guess they change it up quite a bit for the morning SC. Can't say I saw it.

It's a sports highlights show. They're supposed to show highlights of sporting events.

Not too difficult to figure out why someone would be displeased with 45 minutes of jabbering about NFL games that have yet to be played.

*Edit: I missed the reply function; responding to this: "The #1 team played a nobody and won without breaking a sweat... Not exactly big news. Not sure why you expected ESPN to give it much attention."

ESPN has made a cat-fight over their relation with SU because they have to cover up for their stupidity in how they handled the coverage and (their) "evidence" cover-up of the Fine story. They feel an obligation to have an article on it showing on their web page every day, even if it is a week old. The reporters must do a segment on it in every game telecast or risk having to be on OTL with Schwarz. It is getting old.

People still watch "Sportscenter"? It's such a sham of a highlight show I don't even give it a passing glance anymore... Just watch highlights online.

Ditto. The show of my childhood has been gutted.

It's funny but in general Sportscenter is going the way of MTV. MTV completely stopped showing music videos in like 1990 and Sportscenter stopped being a highlight show in like 2005.

ESPN is a rotten network reason #1 - they cancelled playmakers. one of the best shows they ever made, too much pressure from the NFL caved them.

Didn't Kentucky also play last night, and per the OP, they weren't mentioned at all?

I know it is a slow week for college hoops, but not having any highlights in the first hour is pretty crazy.

I don't know if it's just because we always think stuff is better when we were younger, but I would watch Sportscenter for hours on end when I was a kid.

I rarely watch sportcenter anymore. Too many former athletes playing expert and breaking down gamefilm. Christ if I hear Ron Jaworski say he watched one more hour of gamefilm I am sending over LT to his house to sack his ass.

Seeing I follow all NY sports teams anyways, I stick to SNY mostly.

I've found that I don't really watch any of the sports networks for highlights. I will watch the sport specific networks (ie, MLB and NBA networks). I pretty much only watch ESPN, ESPN2, etc for the games.

I guess when I was a kid and I was going to bed at like 8:30 or whatever, I needed to watch Sportscenter in the morning to catch up on what I missed. (When I was a kid, it was big when summer came, because then I could stay up and watch the whole Mets game!) But now I can catch all the news on the internet or I just watch the games before i go to bed.

The problem with SportsCenter these days, as has been touched upon, is that it's 90% analysis and maybe 8% actual highlights. Couple that with the fact that the anchors are pretty much forced to develop "funny" personalities, and it's getting to be nearly unwatchable.

How great would a 24 hour college hoops network be? It could cover all the games not just the marquee matchups and when it wasn't airing its daily show it could show classic college basketball games. I realize with the NCAA and liscencing this would be near impossible but man that would be great. I would pay extra for it in fact...
