Why ESPN is a rotten network, reason #193

ESPN is a rotten network reason #1 - they cancelled playmakers. one of the best shows they ever made, too much pressure from the NFL caved them.

What's deliciously ironic is that when Playmakers was on there were legions of people bitching and moaning about how stupid it was to have a scripted dramatic program on a sports network.

The point: it's always something.

Just wait... when the NBA regular season kicks in, 95% of SC will be all NBA highlights.

It'll be interesting to see how the new NBC Sports Network splits their highlights. Guessing mostly hockey but I'm okay with that.

Morning SC, IMHO, has gone to pot since they started doing six hours of live shows everyday. The rule in the TV news (or sports show) business is that a morning or early afternoon broadcast should look ahead instead of look back. The assumption is made (and research backs up) that the people watching SportsCenter between 9 and 3 have already seen the highlights at least once.

All of the analysis reflects a continuous need for new content to keep people watching all day, and therefore bumps the ratings.

And what do people stick around for the most? The NFL. That's why there's so much coverage dedicated to that league.

If this keeps up, soon ESPN will be worse than Fox News. No, wait, that's impossible.
