It all comes back to Lang, the corroborating witness. If you listen to the excerpts ESPN played, you'll notice there wasn't one point where they talked about Davis being a young boy and getting molested by Fine. The closest it comes is when Laurie Fine says that Davis "was just a kid." She also says she helped to screw him up as well as a kid. So what does 'kid' mean? It could simply mean when he was 18 years old. Beyond that, as many have noted the conversation sounds more like a one sided gay relationship gone bad, instead of molestation. I'm sure ESPN and The Post Standard heard the same thing in 2002. One witness, one tape that doesn't really imply what we all think it does. That's why they didn't run it then. They're running it now because they have a second (and now third) alleged victim. In the context of this case it sounds damning. Outside of that context it sounds as if Davis and Fine were in a gay relationship -- or Fine was pushing himself on him. With no reference to age. This is one of the reasons I HOPE Laurie Fine seemed nonchalant about it. It was a gay relationship and not pedophilia. Otherwise, she is just as much of a monster as Bernie is for condoning it. Obviously, either way this doesn't look good. I just wonder if that tape on it's own will hold up.
