I suppose he is trying to drum up readers. His printing/posting of Clemson fans telling Cuse fans that we, along with our team suck brings out the worst in the .com trolls. Most rational people aren't putting SU on Clemson's level in football. I guess that's where the trolls come in. The PS has been doing a good job lately covering SU football. Unfortunately this doesn't help the image of SU football or its fan base. It's all about website hits I guess,

That would make me very said if I didn't have to anything better to do than write letters to Bud. I think this J Slater character and that Joe Masterleo keep his mailbox filled.

Not as good as if his name was A.C. Slater.

I'm not sure if he has any eligibility left.

It'll sink in when Clemson hangs 50 on us in Death Valley.

There was a sports writer in Dallas that used to create rumors and spread them around and when the rumors came back to him he would write about them in his column. Skip Bayless to the great job with that…

I find it extremely amusing that the Clemson fan's name is J. Slater.

Until he starts referencing snorting an entire tin of Copenhagen, draining daddy's still in one gulp, and ripping the head off his squirrel breakfast with his lone tooth prior to bench pressing an International harvester, I will reserve judgement.

I commented on syr.com about this moron. Swear I had the same thought as you guys, told him Jessie's mad that he spends too much time writing about football. I also put him in his place a bit as well. As good as they are they gave up an avg of 42 pts to the Cocks and Noles last year. They might be closer than we are but they aren't there yet either.

it's his job to bring readers to Syracuse.com....where's the article?

It may be in the very early stages, but, it appears there may be a little rivalry developing. Between the fan trash talk, which apparently we excel at, and Shafer last year we may have something in the future. I know that true, deep-rooted rivalries are built off of mutual respect and long-standing battles/relationships, but, disdain/hatred play a role. I think that we're developing some of the latter.

With where they are right now as a football program, I'd like to see us rise to their level athletically and success wise obviously. I know that we were pretty similar programs for the majority of our histories. And prior to the 2000's I'd say that we were a better program from a macro perspective.

We have more wins all time, but have played significantly more games (80 to be exact).

Overall records:
Syracuse - 705-503-49
Clemson - 680-452-45

But, the landscape has completely changed, and society is "what have you done for me lately". There's not doubt we're lagging there. Conversely, as with many things in life, there are ebbs and flows to each program. I think we can agree that they're riding the flow, and we're coming out of an ebb into a flow.

Excited, again this year, to see how we compete/compare against/to the elites of college football. Florida State, Clemson and Notre Dame (in that order) are fine opponents to use as a measuring stick.

It very well could be developing into a rivalry. There appears to be a decent amount of mutual dislike amongst most of the message board fans. Whether that spills over into the casual fans has yet to be seen. Of course coaches thrower profanities helps ;)

From an outside perspective, Clemson's fan base/team might have looked at Shafer's comments and gameday mannerisms and been thrown off. I can completely understand.

But, he's a tremendous guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. From following Dabo a little bit I highly doubt we'll get him to throw some profanities acrossed the field if the tables are turned :).

I was surprised to see so much disdain/trash talking, but, even though I'm not one that you'll see jumping in I do enjoy it from the outside. I think it adds a little something to the game.

SU would need to close the gap significantly and win a few matchups for this to turn into a rivalry. Otherwise we're just the clueless, obnoxious carpetbaggers from the north and they're the bumblef*cks from the country.

Are we destined to dislike all other teams with orange as a team color?

If Clemson/Syracuse turns into a rivalry, it can only be good for SU considering the state of the program. SU is on the upswing and having a rivalry with a team of Clemson's clout at the moment would mean something is going right.
