- Because they aren’t Duke. The Blue Devils were crippled with injuries and their offense was non-functional. The Cardinals are averaging 438 yards and 32 points per game. They are very balanced with 199 yards rushing and 238 yards passing per game. We will have to out-score this team.
- That should be a challenge a Dino Babers team relishes but our offensive out-put has been erratic at best. Even in the Duke route, we only gained 395 yards and only 99 yards of that came in the second and third quarters. We actually had a good offensive game against Boston College but in the decisive 3rd quarter we had three straight three and outs while the eagles were flying through our defense for long scores. We just can’t afford offensive lapses against Louisville and expect to win.
- Dino Babers said on his show about our strong defensive showing against Duke: “The biggest thing was that we cut back defensively. It was a lot of fun. We ran around with a lot of energy. The rest was taking care of your bother. You never know with that stuff. You have to see if it can be maintained. Coaches are smart.” Scott Satterfield is smart. If our new simple but limited defensive approach prevents us from responding to his plan to attack it, he’ll take full advent age of that.
- Louisville has a 1,000 yard rusher Javian Hawkins (1,045 yards on 196 carries for 6TDs). Quarterback Micale Cunningham loves to throw long off of play action and has 14TDs and just 3 interceptions. His favorite target Tulu Atwell has caught 52 passes for 920 yards and 9TDs. He’s really quick. They saw what Boston College did to our defense and are planning to do the same thing.
- Common opponents: Clemson we 6-41 they 10-45; NC State we 10-16 they 34-20, Florida State we 17-35 they 24-35; Boston College we 27-58 they 41-39. Total: we 0-4, 60-150 they 109-139.
