Why Maryland will win - Everybody thinks we’ll be better than the Terps this year, but what did they think of us last year? - They won 79-0. We only won 24-0. Do the math. - OK, we’re not Howard. But they aren’t liberty, either. Ask yourself this: Would last week’s effort beat Maryland? Our passing game mostly misfired, including two interceptions. WE also fumbled a punt. Our running game produced 8 no gains against a borderline FBS team that gave up 33 points a game a year ago. Liberty had 3 no gains against our fearsome defense, which also gave up that 56 yard pass play. If our victory is dependent on expected improvement, how do we know that that improvement will take place? - It may not take place if our line continues to shuffle like a deck of cards. - Good Tommy or bad Tommy? - Dino said that Maryland has more talent on their roster than we do. Brian Ward says that they would have won 8-10 games last year if they had a quarterback. They beat Texas and almost beat Ohio State, too. They aren’t scared of us. - When teams face adversity, they either come apart or they come together. Last year’s Terps came together. With their coaching situation, that has to be based on team leadership from the roster. It’s still there. - And they’ve added to their roster: Josh Jackson is the quarterback they’ve needed. Linebacker Shaq Smith transferred in from Clemson and linebacker Keandre Jones from Ohio State. They play pretty good football in those places. Dino called tight end Tyler Mabry “the best in the MAC”. - Mike Locksley likes to use two tight ends so stopping their running game will be no joke. And Anthony MacFarland is greased lightning. He averaged 7.9 yards per carry last year. - Ken Ruff has been added to our injury list: Syracuse Orange Injuries - NCAAF Football - USA TODAY If he can’t play or isn’t 100% with Bear Williams also out, we are dangerously thin in the center of the defensive line. Maryland may be able to match our place-kicking with Joe Pettino who was 12 for 14 on field goal attempts last season. Remember when Pittsburgh was able to match Andre Szymt with their own heroics? It could happen here. - This is Syracuse. We’ve spent the year dreaming of having College GameDay here for the Clemson game. You know something’s got to spoil it.
