- Because this is not last year’s Maryland team. They had their two top receivers , Stefon Diggs and Deon Long out for that game and were toothless offensively. You saw this year’s Maryland team vs. West Virginia, Diggs caught a 77 yard TD pass from CJ Brown who ran 75 yards for a score, (in part because the defense had to account for Diggs and Long), and William Likely returned a punt 69 yards for a touchdown. This team has speed to burn. We’ve avoided giving up the big play so far this year but the clock is ticking.
- Central Michigan blew out Purdue and then we crushed Central Michigan. Keep in mind the first part of that sentence. Mediocre teams have trouble sustaining performance from one week to the next and, sorry folks, but Syracuse is a mediocre team. We weren’t the same team in our second game as we were in our first game. And we aren’t going to be the team we were in that second game in the third game, either.
- The big win obscured Ryan Norton’s lousy place kicking. You know that going to matter in some game this year.
- Yes, Maryland game up 694 yards to West Virginia but 511 came in the air. Do you expect Terrel Hunt to get 511 yards in the air?
- Here comes another mobile quarterback: CJ Brown, who got that 75 yard run and completed that 77 yard pass. Those leaks we saw vs. Villanova have got to be plugged.
- Randy Edsall absolutely loves to beat SU and he’s good at it: He’s done it five times in eight games.
- The time to be worried is when we just need to win one more game to set up the big game, (remember Boston College last basketball season- the game before the rematch with Duke where we were going to be 26-0 and ranked #1). An undefeated Syracuse vs. Notre Dame on prime time national TV is too good to be true, so you might as well forget it.
