- In 2018, we routed West Virginia in a bowl game because thei quarterback opted out to prepare for the draft and ours didn’t. It was the beginning of that sort of thing. 2022 is fate’s revenge: both teams have star running backs. Our guy is gone, along with a lot of his teamamtes). Their guy is staying.
- If you were to construct a team to beat Syracuse, it would look like Minnesota. A big, brawny running game with a back who can take it all the way if there’s an opening. They’ve got plenty of film of what Clemson, Notre Dame, Florida State, Pitt, etc. did to us and they can do it, too.
- In fact, it will be easier as our defense has been riddled by injuries and defections, including its coordinator. It will be just a shell of itself.
- The Gophers have a rock-ribbed defense Bernie Bierman would have loved. They don’t rush you but they keep everything in front of them and the opponent out of the end zone.
- Minnesota is one of the best teams in the country on third and fourth down on both sides of the ball. We aren’t.
- We were penalized more than any team in the country. The Gophers were penalized less than any team in the country – save one.
- Yeah, we beat Purdue and they didn’t. But the Boilermakers absolutely handed us that game with a series of unsportmanslike conduct penalties in the last minute, (5 of them!).
- How do we even keep this close?
