- Because they know how to win. They are 3-0 and we are 1-2. Of course, they might be 1-2 if they played our schedule but the point is, they won a 30-27 game in three overtimes and a 28-23 game. They know how to win close games. We lost a close and reasonably close game to Northwestern and Southern California and then beat Stony brook in spite of ourselves, leaving 20 points off the scoreboard that would have turning a 48-17 game into a 28-17 game. This is likely to be a close game and the team who makes the plays needed to win it down the stretch. Do you really think that will be Syracuse?
- This game is likely to played in front of a full house of Minnesota fans who will be screaming for every play they make. How will we respond to that? (It will be our first a game not in half-empty stadium.) How will they?
- Max Shortell is not Charley Loeb. He’s an alternative quarterback, not a back-up and a better passer than MarQueis Gray. His passer rating is 208.9.(Ryan Nassib is 147.2). He’ll be looking right at Ri’Shard Anderson the whole game.
- We will try to get in Max’s face with our pass rush but at 6-6 240, it may not matter. He could take hits and still be standing and get the ball downfield to somebody.
- Losing Gray hurts their running game, (he was their second leading rusher), but they still have a fine back in Donnell Kirkwood. And our run defense has been springing some leaks.
- We are last in the country in punt return defense and they have a punt returner, AJ Barker, who is averaging 11.2 yards per return. It’s not a question of will he break one but when.
- They have the #6 pass defense in the nation and two sack masters in the line in Ra’Shede Hagman and DL Whilhite. Justin Pugh isn’t coming through that door yet. Lou Alexander will be struggling with these guys.
- Does Ross Krautman have his act together?
- Remember what happened the last time we went there to play a football game? Five turnovers and a 33-35 defeat. You know we are going to have a game like that. It could be tomorrow night.
