- They are the team we’d hoped Syracuse would be by now. In Dino’s second season at Eastern Illinois, had a quarterback throw for 53 touchdowns against 9 interceptions, receivers who had 123 catches for 1544 yards and 19TD and 85/1305/13 and running backs who had 217 carries for 1563 yards and 15TDs and 217/1003/10. His second Bowling Green team had a quarterback throw for 46TDs against 8 picks, receivers who had 94/1033/10 and 85/1544/16 and running backs who had 223/1299/15 and 145/825/5. The Tar Heels last year had a QB, (Sam Howell) with 38/7, receivers, (Dazz Newsome and Dyami Brown), with 72/1018/10 and 51/1034/12 and running backs, (Michael Carter and Javonte Williams), with 177/1003/3 and 166/933/5. All are back. Last year we had a QB with 19/5, receivers with 66/1023/11 and 37/559/2 and RB’s with 170/846/7 and 76/337/3 and 87/336/3. The top receiver and all three of the running backs are gone. - We think of Tommy DeVito as a promising young quarterback. He’s a redshirt junior with 23 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Sam Howell came in as a true freshman joining a program that had been 5-17 the previous two seasons and passed for 38TDs vs. 7 interceptions. This kid is going to win a Heisman trophy if he doesn’t jump to the pros first. - We all love Dino but Mack Brown is a legend who started his first tenure at UNC going 2-20 his first two seasons and wound up going 20-3 his last two seasons before going to Texas where he had 9 straight 10 win seasons and won a national championship, (and might have won another if his QB didn’t go down early in the 2009 game). He’s done it at this level. Dino hasn’t. - I checked the injury report: https://www.scacchoops.com/acc-football-injury-report The Heels have four guys out, (and the list includes Covid Opt-outs). Three of them are DB’s. They also have an OL out. None were projected starters, although one DB and the OL were on the two-deep. We have a Swiss cheese line-up that is missing our projected top two running backs, a starting guard, another guard we had hoped to have but who will have to wait for a year under the old transfer rule and a possible star linebacker. We actually have a fullback starting at guard. - We’ve got two new coordinators and the DC is putting in a whole new defense. That’s difficult enough but the disjointed preparation for the season and the powerhouse opening game makes this almost an impossible situation. - Wouldn’t we like UNC’s schedule? They don’t play Clemson or Louisville and get Notre Dame at home, where they will play 3 of their first four games, (although we don’t’ yet know how much that might mean). Who do we talk to get a schedule like that?
